Built three great sides. The first from the wreckage of the Second World War, a bombed ground and no money. The second from the most advanced youth system ever developed in English football, the third from the wreckage of the air crash to win the European Cup. What a man.

@user-te1hi9rx7b yes because football is all about win percentages isn't it. After all Sam Allardyce, with his 100% win ratio, must be one of the greatest England managers

@user-te1hi9rx7b Matt Busby built a football club from ruins. United in the mid 1940s were homeless with a bombed out shell of a stadium, no money, and hadn't won a trophy for over 30 years. He built legendary teams, revolutionised youth team football, won 5 league titles, 2 FA cups, conquered Europe, and made generations of fans happy (not just united fans either - many neutrals loved his entertaining teams). That's quite a legacy, which still endures today. Only Ferguson compares in MUFC history. Though Ernest Mangnell deserves a mention too.

One of my few regrets in life is not getting to meet Sir Matt before he passed as i was supposed to. He was meant to officially open my school (Stretford High School) on 14th Feb 1992. Unfortunately, he was too ill to attend so Alex Ferguson came instead. Working for the school newspaper, we were allowed an exclusive interview which will live with me forever. As an 11 yr old, it was the biggest moment of my life. As it happens, i went on to meet and work around Sir Alex Ferguson many times in the future, which, as amazing as it was, leaves me with a sense of regret that Sir Matt couldnt make it that day. I would have loved the opportunity to shake his hand and thank him for building such a great club from rubble. Rest in peace Sir Matt. ❤

Football Videos, Thanks for this insightful interview with Sir Matt. Great achievements when you consider he built a club from scratch and had to contend with almost losing his life and an awful personal tragedy.

Matt Busby “made” Manchester United. Although the club existed as far back as Newton Heath in 1878 and than as Manchester United in 1902 it was his persona that defined the club, making it the most famous, entertaining and romantic football club in the world.

No man United were formed by a scouser called Frederick Atwood your top goalscorer is a scouser Wayne Rooney …. Matt busby was Liverpool captain and assistant manager and supported Liverpool . YNWA.

As an old blue nose I found this interview fascinating, had the pleasure of meeting this great man in 1978 on holiday in Largs Scotland. And he spent 20 minutes with me about his love of Manchester folk and how he was respected by all sides and had only kind words for everybody. The man was a genius and a gentleman.

Utd wouldn't be where they are today without this man. A true legend of a manager. He built teams like Fergie has done at Utd. Imagine walking into a dressing room and seeing Charlton, Law and Best sitting there. Those three would be worth a fortune today.

Possibly, yes: - Reconstructed the team after the war.: champions. - Reconstructed the team after Carey and Rowley: Busby babes (champions, European Cup contenders). - Reconstructed the team after Munich: Champions of Europe (Best, Law and Charlton). Charisma, intelligence, character, wisdom, all in abundance. He’s basically the most important person in Manchester United.

I've been a season ticket holder at OT for so many years....but I always look up to the statue of the father of the club. If he's here, haunting the old place that he and Jimmy Murphy built? We'll be all right.

Christian Rayner. what to don't know is this ...when Busby took over at Man Utd not only did he not have a team (just after the war) but Man U had no stadium or pitch as it had been bombed to pieces. therefore for the next few seasons Man U played all their home matches at Maine Road..in 1948 they won the FA Cup..also if not for Munich Man U could have won at least 4 more league titles ...3 FA Cups and with the side they had would certainly have dethroned Real Madrid as European Champions .
