WHAT THE US SPEND ON MILITARY IN LESS THAN ONE DAY WOULD SAVE THIS WONDERFUL LINER

Heartbreaking to see the world's fastest liner towed around

The only stories that my grandparents told of travel were airplanes. I was born too late to hear about these glorious ships. They of course knew people that could afford to travel on such liners because I once asked. If I had enough money, I would buy this ship and outfit her back to her splendor and make it mine and share it with whoever wants to see. Wouldn't that be amazing? In 1984 when they sold off everything inside, I was unaware of the ships existence because I was just five years old. There is something familiar about this ship. I'm now searching for memorabilia online. Thank you for doing what you can to save the SS UNITED STATES. Someone should make a book about the interior then and now with one photo so I can really immerse myself and travel back in time. Thank you

WHO CARES IF IT WAS OLD FASHION ,BACK THEN THEY HAD FASHION ,TASTE AND STYLE. PEOPLE BACK THEN KNEW WHAT LUXURY WAS .YOU WOULD THINK SOME MILLIONAIRE WOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND PURCHASE HER AND RESTORE HER TO HER FORMER GLORY AND MAKE A MUSEUM OUT OF HER. THIS IS ICON OF OUR COUNTRY AND SHE PROVED HER WORTH AS A SEA GOING VESSEL.AND BRANG HER PASSENGER'S HOME SAFE.SHE DESERVES RESTORATION NOT RUST ROT.

Are the engines still OK? After a while, the turbines and bearings can start sagging, making them useless.

12_30_2018 UPDATE: www.workboat.com/news/passenger-vessels/new-move-to-redevelop-reuse-ss-united-states/ Perhaps she may yet be saved as RXR Realty does appear to have the financial resources to save her! Hope! :-)

Right now she's a gutted mess it's a sad end to a beautiful ship sitting there not in a port of call a respectable location but tied to a dock like a grain barge waiting for her trip to the breakers yard in her condition she would never make it poor lady sad ending

I have an idea have president trump speak in favor of scrapping it and you'll have enough $ to put it back to sea
@joekillip65056 жыл бұрын
Hahaha ya the Demacrats will give there lives to save it from trump

The hilarious thing is that you are perhaps absolutely right. I spent so much time asking him to help save the ship. What I should've done is tell him to scrap the ship (but of course to get the Dems to then say no). XD If he gets back into power - or if literally anyone decides to step up assuming the current job with RXR Realty falls on its face, God forbid; couldn't care less who it is - and helps save her, my confidence in this country will have been given a massive reason to grow back.

She's suffering from negligence and vandalism. But the real age of a ship is the wear and tear on the engines, shafts, etc. and SSUSA didn't operate long enough to have a lot of wear deep down where repair or replacement requires removing the superstructure. Most of the rest is cosmetic-rust cleaning, fresh paint, replacement of furniture, modernizing the electrical system. The conservancy can stabilize her, then start restoring, a bit at a time.

It would be one of the greatest of shames if something isn't done to save the ship. To let one of the grandest ocean liners of all time, and the namesake of our country, be sold for scrap or sunk to become an artificial reef, makes those of us who cherish her burdened with a heavy heart. At the very least, if money could be found, she could be sandblasted and repainted in all her former splendor. I would love no redesign for her, but placed back in original condition; chock full of 50s reproduction furnishings and décor. I think at this stage of the game, she will never sail again, but the SS United States would be saved as a floating hotel and maritime museum. Well, there goes my wishful thinking again. It just all boils down to money.

@steveh18366 жыл бұрын
Joey Palochak or restore her to the condition she was in when she got decommissioned in 1969, put her in California, and send the queen mary back to Europe.
@johnfranklin52775 жыл бұрын
@@steveh1836 nope, sending the queen mary is not an option, we love our QUEEN MARY, we've had her longer than Cunard did, and she is to old, and would not survive being towed. She is NOT SEAWORTHY, anymore.
@daveboydell28965 жыл бұрын
Just because it's called United States doesn't necessarily make it worthy of preservation. I hope it does get preserved but there comes a time when you have to throw in the towel!

Well since my question over at your facebook page has been ignored?? I'll ask it here. The ship is worth 5 or 6 million for scrap? Is it possible to get a loan using the ship's value as security?
@johnfranklin52775 жыл бұрын
You dont understand. Let's say its worth 6 million dollars. It needs about 1 billion to bring it back to top top, all new interior. And mechanical condition. So its value for a loan, would maybe get the exterior repainted. And that's about it. Not going to solve the situation.

It is outrageous that she was towed over to Turkey and Ukraine where they nicked all the stuff out of her. Theres plenty of milllionaires who could buy her and refit her - how about Tom Cruise I could see him liking this!
@johnfranklin52775 жыл бұрын
Tom cruise doesn't have ANYWHERE NEAR the money to restore this ship, even if he spent every dollar he has. Dont you people have a clue how much money it would take???? Its not a 2500 sq foot house!! Probably close to 1 BILLION DOLLARS to do it.
