Way back in 2009, we started from Gangotri, trekked to gaumukh and back to gangotri on the same day. It was a whooping 38km trek in a single day and took us 18 hours. And we acclimatized only for a few hours in Gangotri before our trek started. Man! The days when I was physically fit to do such stuff!

Yes, its possible but very risky and one should have extremally good physical and mental fitness.

I have trekked to Gaumukh from gangotri and came back same day, around 28 km of trekking... My legs were on fire but still made it.

@Nupur went to gaumuk without guide, in 2017 but to climb tapovan, i felt not secure to cross the glacier without proper guidance.

i had visited gangotri 2times..in 2012 and this year ..travelled by bike..but not trekked the gomukh and tapovan ...haalat he nhi bachti bhai..beautiful and peaceful place it is...no rush like badrinath kedarnath...and very cold it is

With grace of god Shiva, I was able to complete my first long trek and hike in Himalyas from Gaumukh to Kedarnath by feet completing more than 300 km via Mountain Route. It was blissful. Did the trek to Gaumukh back in 2001 with my dad. He is a hydrologist and had a research station at Bhojbasa. I remember going to Gaumukh from the left side of the river then. Did not need to cross the river. Wonder why you have to cross the river now.

Mai yesterday he vapas aya hu Kedar nath jane par mai itna tried nhe hua. Jinta yha par oxigen ki kami feel ho rhe thi. Head pain or vomiting jesa lgra tha. Or heart beat bhi bhad rhe thi. But mai morning mai 7:30 par chla or 7:30 tak niche aa gya tha. But mza bhut aya.
