My first ride on the r+1 today, new 20 min ftp on first ride, and I did not even try… the Seat stat looks incredible beautiful and really special in real life. I was sceptic, but it was just very cool… In fact, in 2020, I had the specialized SL7, last year I had the wilier slr0. This is the first time the guys at the bike shop took pictures of my bike while I was there… The bike rides so incredible smooth, by far the most comfortable bike I had the last tree years. It took just a couple km to adjust to the geometry… well done vielo, well done…. Super happy

Are you still enjoying your ride? I’m really interested in the r+1 but I’m not sure about the 1x system. I do like the look of the 44T chain set with a sram xplr 10-44 cassette though…

Thank you David for the review. It was a pleasure working with you. For the comments, please allow me to reply. The R+1 is totally bespoke design and engineered by Vielo. We started this project late 2016 into 2017 before we invested in our own moulds. I can assure you it’s not an open or shared mould with anyone. This frame is totally engineered around 1x which fees up many areas of design, engineering and therefore performance that is restricted with 2x. We know traditional road cyclist will find 1x hard to accept, however, I do know what is coming from the big groupset suppliers over the next year which will help to make 1x more acceptable. Expect to see more reviews of the R+1 from other respected journalist very soon.

Nice one for taking the time to read and reply to the comments on your product. I think it looks great, is ahead of its time, and at the same time i fear (as with the 3t strada) that the groupset it is designed for doesn't actually exist yet...

@@jimthebikeguy thank you James. The bike you mention was running 11 speed that was available at the time. We now have 1x 12 speed and 13 speed with better gaps and harmony for road use.

I like this bike. Unlike many traditional roadies I don't have an irrational obsession with seat-stay aesthetics. To me it's an interesting design and I can imagine it adds a fair amount of compliance/comfort. Ribble have adopted a very similar seat-stay design, but this is more of an extreme version. I do like the idea of a clean and simple 1x drivetrain too, but I'm not totally convinced about the current ratio options. I would have to try it for myself. If the range is wide enough I would certainly take it over my current compact double. The geometry is a bit unusual too. Looks like quite an aggressive position with very short chain-stays and a very long reach. The effective top tube length looks okay, but you will end up with quite a rearward weight distribution relative to most "normal" bikes. Again I would have to try this for myself. It's not a bike I would dare to buy without a really thorough demo! But I like the concept and the quality appears high from various reviews I've read. I haven't read a bad review of this bike yet. Most reviewers seem to love it! Unlike the usual predictable "haters" in KZbin comments, lol!
@rewild-media3 жыл бұрын
Stunning seat stays, obscurity is a positive, curved seat tube is lovely. No horrible shouty logos. At least some company owners are trying to be futurists, good luck to them - in a few years Vielo may well have contributed some innovations that will be fab and beneficial to all. Innovators should be celebrated and encouraged. I'll be saving my pennies...
@CaptainShiny50003 жыл бұрын
Very interesting! Looks like it has a very long top tube which would put you in a pretty aggressive position so it should be fast. Somehow the yellow version complements the geometry in terms of overall aesthetics. Now I really wanna see their Gravelbike.

@robertandrews30552 жыл бұрын
My 1X climbs well (11X32 chainring/42 tooth chainring), but then again I've always been a bit of a masher. I may swap the 11X32 for an 11X36 in the future, but not quite sure yet. I'm not sure what it is, but the 1X drivetrain just "feels" smoother. Could be that it's quieter?

IMO No, Love my two 1xGravel bikes and my 1xMTB. For a year a I ran 1x Road (sram force 1) and I really, really wish it was enough because I love the simplicity and the clean look, but when I swapped back it was just night and day the consistency you get with a compact was just not obtainable on a single ring, I felt like I was either always spinning or always grinding and very little in that sweet spot.

@mark13williams133 жыл бұрын
I don’t really see who this bike is for. Roadies are not interested in 1x as you always have to sacrifice something. Either go for big range and have huge gaps in the gears or have smaller gaps and no gears for climbing. The price is also stupidly high for an unknown brand that no doubt gets these frames made in a factory that pumps out frames for numerous other brands in the Far East (what is their USP?). Who would buy something like this over a Canyon, Trek, Specialized etc?

1x = no sale. If you want a bike you’re using for a lot of different topography and purposes, a 1x is terrible. For people who want to throw money at multiple road bikes, this might work. For everybody else, it’s a way to dorms money on something not as useful because it’s cheaper to manufacture and easier to engineer a bike for 1x.

1x doesn't make sense on the road until you can get 14 speeds
@monty20783 жыл бұрын
Not so, it was a constant problem. See comments from their riders
@monty20783 жыл бұрын
Hi Toby, We are saying the same thing. 1x, for the reasons you've given, doesn't make sense on a road bike. Once you are up to 14 sprockets on the cassette you can keep the jumps close enough to get the range and manage your cadence. A 2x8 doesn't have any better range and you have to use the front mech which is a loser. I think we will see a 1x14 in the next couple of years.
