imagine being a student and answering back a snarky comment to somebody a lot more experienced than you who has taken the time to support your development, what a peanut.

She really has such a nice, full, strong but soft sound. It doesn't sound like a problem and the instrument sounds fantastic, but it's actually gigantic. Actually best solo players play on relatively small basses comparing to their bodies and reason for that is just sparing energy and time.

Well, in any case I certainly hope she keeps that bass for orchestral playing.

Edgar Meyer's bass is pretty small

The reason is not because small basses are easier to play, although they are. Small basses have a tendency to have a more bright and piercing sound, one that projects much better than a big bass.

She really does play wonderfully! But goodness, I can say from experience injuries from playing are no joke, I hope she does take that into consideration if she does focus on solo/thumb position repertoire

He has nothing to say about the playing (it really was very very good, technically and musically I’m not sure what I’d even say about it) so he talks about the bass. But the bass sounds so good, he has to come up with something - it’s perhaps too big for her? On the other hand, about the only thing I might have said was about a little bit too-careful approach to the very highest notes. Which could be just “practice those more so you can go for it”, or it could be the big shoulders of the instrument are getting in the way of her reaching them as easily as the rest of the instrument and it’s subtly slowing her down up there. So maybe even musically, the excessive size of the instrument was the most constructive thing to address. I still love her response, “did it look like a problem?”, though.

i believe i've seen your comments on mikyung sung's channel as well... well, i digress. i'm glad you also didn't take his comment as something degrading. rácz is hungarian and it just seemed like some things just got swept up in translation. he has nothing really to comment probably because she played extremely well. the hiccups were not from a lack of technique/bad intonation but just general mishaps that happen all the time. ultimately, it just seemed like he had genuine concern for her playing comfortability and ease. and personally, i've gotten quite a bit of shoulder pain playing prolonged thumb position on larger basses so i'm just genuinely shocked by the amount of negative feedback that this comment section is giving lol but yeah i agree she was definitely pretty badass about it
