OBB knock it out of the park yet again. NightJet has almost single-handedly saved overnight rail travel in Europe. What a great product.

I wish SNCF and RENFE would get on board and take sleeper trains seriously again. I love RENFEs Trenhotel, but they've been cutting the routes so much. The west of Europe really has been left out. A Brussels/Koln to Barcelona/Madrid sleeper would be amazing. (either using high-speed lines, or a Talgo set on regular track). There's a TGV Brussels to Perpignan but only as a day train which is a real time-waster, and hardly a comfortable journey, and having to do that *then* change again to an onward train is absurd in the 21st century. We want a god damn sleeper with a god damn shower and a nice menu with those nice fluffy rolls you get on Nightjet, godammit. Oslo to Frankfurt/Berlin is a real missing link too - Norway really has fallen off the map.

They need dining cars, or at least bar cars, but otherwise they seem pretty luxurious for modern trains! I only hope the windows will be openable for a long time to come; it should be required by law. :-D

As someone living in Germany, I can safely say that rail service in Austria feels superior. In my experience the Railjet/Nighjet trains have always had functioning wifi and air conditioning, and the stations throughout the country feel far more modern than Germany. Hope that in the coming years the DB goes through a large scale modernization of its stations and infrastructure.
@scrambaba Жыл бұрын
Actually, it is the “modernizing” of DB that is the problem. Unlike OBB, the politicians and managers in Germany demand that DB act in the way they think a private corporation should act, to pursue profit. So everything DB does is focussed on getting an outcome as cheaply as possible. So they give minimum service, minimum repairs to their trains, minimum amenities to passengers, minimum customer service, minimum comfort on trains, minimum track servicing. Instead of focussing funds on core operations, they spend grandiose amounts on megaprojects like the new Stuttgart station and putting in high speed rail everywhere, even though it is massively expensive and isn’t needed by 95% of passengers. They also drain their funds on corporate empire building by acquiring companies in other countries. Now they don’t even buy loks from German companies anymore, instead they are buying them from Spain. Overall, DB is the ugliest collision between a once-glorious train service and extreme neoliberalism. Thank God, OBB and SBB have not been so badly infected by this deforming disease as DB and seem to have more sensible and grounded leadership.

That means no light, no water, no flushing toilet and no air conditioning or even fresh air. That spooked me in the tiny Deluxe jail cell, so I went looking for an attendant somewhere in the train twice. They couldn't fix it, but somehow everything worked again at 4h40. I filed a complaint and half of our ticket was refunded for the technical breakdown. The delay of 45 minutes wasn't enough. Would like to try the NJ again though.

This is something I want to do on my next trip to Europe. It is amazing that you were able to book this for about $245 U.S.

Wanted to take that train the other way around, but corona just fucked everything up. so scheduled to next year. Gonna start in Aachen (my hometown), head to Vienna and from there on further to Slovakia. At least, now I know what to expect from the train, so thanks for the video ;-)

There were a lot of cars on that train. You might want to explain how you knew which was yours and where, roughly put, it was on that long train.

You should try get an OBB train from Wien HBF to Hallstatt. I tried that. It is so beautiful. You can see the mountains and lakes.

I took a Swiss Narrow Gauge train tour in 2010 that included, Bernina Express, Glacier Express and Golden Pass. I remember eating mouthwatering gelato in Tirano.

I think you'll find the inaugural Vienna/Innsbruck-Brussels service ran in late January 2020 (I didn't know about it in time to book, or we'd have been on it, as we were returning from Innsbruck that day). Obviously it had to be stopped a few weeks later due to the pandemic - I am glad it is running again!

We’re they not in the Köln area and over the border in Belgium? As a foreigner, I don’t consider NRW southern but simply western.

Do you know where that diversion went? At 22:29 the train passes through Pulheim (which is northwest of Cologne), but in the south-east direction, i.e. opposite of the overall direction of the ride

I know this is probably too late for a reply but I'm kinda intrigued by that mysterious red-white train set parked across from the lounge at 2:25. Doesn't look like any current ÖBB or DB livery.

That's the local express (REX) train to Bratislava. It's usually mixed carriages, the front ones (that you can see on this video) are Slovak ZSSK coaches, the back ones ÖBB.

Votre vidéo est très jolie. Au départ de Vienne, le train est composé de 14 voitures ( si j'ai bien compté ...). A Bruxelles, il n'y a plus que 4 voitures ! Que s'est-il passé ?
@joachimdaniel21392 жыл бұрын
The train consists in Vienna of 2 to 3 parts. Some go to Brussels, some go to Amsterdam, there are sometimes also coaches to Hamburg.
