Yeah the big guy... not in my platoon. And nobody taped weapons like that. Never took a pro mask on oatrol, but that's unit SOP. Pretty good looking reenactment though... you guys have lots of retro gear at home!

Not in the US army infantry either, we had to do recon/patrols mostly at night. No helmets, canteens or slings, anything that rattled was tapped up or removed. Had to move slowly and quietly. Stoping every 3 or 4 steps to check for any sounds, traps or signs of the enemy the pointman had look for boobytraps constantly. When we went through the woods with our squad in the day time we spread out in a wedge formation. On 3 or 4sn recon missions normally at night we were in a straight line and close enough to see the person in front of you. If it got to dark with in arm reach. If the bad guys could hear or see you than you risk being capture of killed. You did not want to leave a trail that you were there. A big 300 pound guy even if he was quiet the size of his body would be more likely to hit a branch and at that weight would lack endurance to go deep in the woods/jungle undetected. Recon needed to make it to the area where the enemy was and make it back out without being detected. Like a ghost. Normally the best were picked for patrol/recon. When I was in they used maps and compasses. Not like today when everything is GPS.

Good work! I enjoyed watching your tailend charlie covering your backtrail. Something people often forget.
@MrRickelk2 жыл бұрын
One thing I noticed was the two guys following stood straight up when stopping, should take a knee. Big guy in the middle thundered through the bush, loud and too fast movements. Tape was used but not in small pieces. Like the LC harnesses, packs looked good having water tied to it. Over all 1 to 10 I would give you a 9 Talk to your guys tell them to slow down and take a knee 99% of the time. I still have my LC1, Tiger Strips, no boots or pack any more. That would be fun as hell to reenact, be cool to have blanks and have some VC guys and do a drill walking into an ambush.....and......setting one up. Yeah cool video, jealous. Good job keep em coming.

One more thing ! When you find your last 4 men make sure one of them can get his hand's on an M-60 or an M-63 Stoner LMG . Add a few law rocket tubes to a few guy's pack's as well . Recon balives in fire power . The more of it you'v got the faster you will break contact and get away !

Agreed. Don't forget the satchel of baseballs. That also aided in escape and evasion when alluding the enemy, until you arrived at exfil.

We are aware of all the problems you kindly informed me of and we are recruiting for more members and shopping for new kit all the time. Funny how this looks more like the Woods in Georgia, than the jungles of Vietnam. That one guy in the OD green had a few too many chins as well to be in the Army in the 60’s or 70’s. Could get away with being fat nowadays though.

@scarecrow25 American Marine? You are clueless. All of us lost weight there. I went from 181 lbs when I landed to 132 when I left. Up to 130 degrees F and 90 percent humidity, and lousy C-rations and contaminated water. Everyone had dysentary and most caught malaria at some point. When I came home I looked like I got out of Auschwitz.

Nope, the second alleged Marine is very overweight. The gas checks on their M-16 rifles is not accurate of the time depicted. The charging handle on their rifles is compromised for the era depicted. The Recon movement and advance is not correct. The terrain maybe close, but I'm guessing southern United States.

To survive one did not go through highlighted open spaces but took the time to stay in the shadows and foliage. Slower by far and much harder but best to live than make an easier target, especially with only three. With three it only takes one to get hit and all three are lost with hands full trying to get the one hit out.

if you want to learn how to patrol i think the vietnamese are still the ones you should be watching. Based on old japanese methods, they send the first guy through on his hands and knees with no weapons for mobility and increased stealth. We almost never found these patrols first throughout the entire war.

BS, they were no different and when they thought they were in a secure area they were as loud and undisciplined as any 18 yr old. No they were not "super troops".
@RStevenPage11 ай бұрын
@@gerry6720Their was a distinct difference though, between the grunts and the NVA. The grunts hoped they would survive to go home. The NVA/VC went on missions knowing they won't come back. Like the Dac Cong, the elite sapper unit. Or the C-10 sappers who invaded the US Embassy during Tet. Like Palestinian Black September at the Munich Olympic massacre, they already knew they were dead men when they walked out the door.
