Produced, Edited, and Filmed by David Annarino.
Video highlighted by KZbin several times Veteran's Day.
Vietnam veterans were stereotyped and demonized to such a great extent that even the widows of deceased servicemen received late-night harassing phone calls. It has been said by some that at no point in our country's history have our veterans been hurt more by our own countrymen than by the enemy. For many vets, the homecoming was often a powerful first encounter that made their adjustment to civilian society more difficult. This is the story of a Kentucky base that felt it was time to give these veterans the welcome home they never received. Produced, shot and edited by Dave Annarino.

I don't blame the normal German soldiers of WWII. What did they know better? They grew up in that country and grew up through the rise of the Nazi party, they didn't know the true evil that was going on. The sick bastards were really the SS officers, the Nazi leaders, and those alike. Those regular German soldiers just wanted to follow orders and feel proud for serving their country, not get grouped with the rest of the filth of the Nazi party.

Sk8mattGaming Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Even if you may feel like it, there are others just like you. You have worth, and you are here for a reason. It is not your fault, you have to accept that past to be in the present. And maybe that's the reason he doesn't feel the wounds amended because it's not a real apology. Yes many soldiers did horrid things during Vietnam, and many of them contrary to popular belief were severely punished for it.Also American soldiers got blamed for a lot of things that they weren't responsible for either, like that fire bombing picture with the little girl running away. Yeah that was the SK but America got blamed for it. My grandfather told me stories of his service ( he didn't like too but I always got him drunk first.) His unit saved an entire village from the VC who were decapitating women who's husbands aided the Americans. War is NOT black and white!

WE are SO SORRY for the bad behavior of a few Americans -- there were so many of us who hated that and did NOT feel (nor act) the same way. (WAR IS HELL like Gen. Sherman said, but there are times when we must help our allies fight to keep our own America free and allow us to think freely and express what we wish without threat of harm. That is our America -- let's keep it that way!) It does not matter what the reason for war is or was, where it was or is even now, our brave young men (including women, today) fight for the freedom of our (YOURS AND MY) Country, laid down their lives for us and our Country, are still doing that, and NOTHING can ever minimize that! We thank them, respect and honor them, always have and always will.

Anders You know what's sad though. If the U.S hadn't tried to help the Muslims have a "government", Isis wouldn't exist. We tried to teach them how to have democracy and it split up the Suni and Shite Muslims. So in short, Isis existence is Americas fault. we always step in trying to teach proper government and something fucks up.

*** Sgt WarDaddy98 *** But I believe that's more down to the US' failure to moderate things after the war, they left the country while the supporters of the fallen governments' supporters took control of the country. I think the US are right in trying to give everyone human rights and democracy no matter where they're born, they just need to dedicate resources for a longer period of time than the war, perhaps a small occupation to ensure the country transitions smoothly.

I was a kid back then, in the mid - late 60's,,,,,,,,we lived on Clark, dad was 902nd out of Clark,,,,we would wait for him at flight line and see the boys-men come in,,waliking, being carried, some flights had boxes,,and i remember seeing the wounded in the hospital halls at Clark AFB,,,,,,some smiled, some cried and some just looked into nowhere,,,,that conflict alone caused many many to suffer,,some scars you can see and others you can't,,,,,,some took their own lives, others lived out their lives and would never speak of southeast asia,,,,,,,many took their nightmares that tormented them to the grave and many still live with the whole issue everyday,,,,,,,,so in a way it was good that they got a coming home finally,,,,,,,some would appreciate it and some would probably blow it off as an after thought,,,,,it still doesn't make it right how they were treated ,,,,,,,,,,you can't pull a splinter out 40 years later and expect the infection to just go away.............they did what no-one else wanted to do,,,,,,,when others were dodging their chance the vets stood up,,,,i am grateful to all the vets for their service, but, i still ask myself one question,,,,,,,how do you tell those that can't hear "welcome home, job well done"

My father would take me to the VA in Memphis, TN with him when I was a kid and I would sit for hours and listen to stories about Korea and Vietnam from all kinds of veterans that were there for all kinds of reasons. Many of the stories were nightmare fuel because my father told them to be honest, not to sugar coat it and they didn't, but I knew after meeting and talking to those people that I had to become one of them and when I graduated from Marine Corps boot camp in the beginning of 2002 my father recorded the ceremony and took it back to the VA to show it off.

Couldnt Beat? HA HA Denial Milan. It was possible for The United States to win the War However doing so could of sparked WW3 since China also Helped North Vietnam. The United States did not bomb Supply lines nor bomb Aircraft bases or even bring Heavily armored tanks into the Region, Why? Because it would Escalate the war into a Bigger War and Eventually something Unprecedented.

I am glad my fellow Vietnam veterans got this homecoming. I served in combat with the 9th Infantry Division (Mobile Riverine Force) during 1968-69. I was wounded on 8/18/1968 when my platoon was wiped out. Coming home in early June, 1969 from Oakland, CA to Nashville, TN, I was in uniform and treated with respect. I am sad that many had a terrible arrival in the USA. Those protesting the war were NOT against me. Please read the "Pentagon Papers." Daniel Ellsberg released them but they were written by the people who sent us to fight, knowing this was a war which could never be won. I reserve my lingering negative feelings for them, not the people who protested the war. Welcome home my brothers.

Robert, my Dad died of a brain hemorrhage, after a year long fight with leukemia. At the time of his death the government didn't acknowledge that his exposure to Agent Orange caused his death. I believe it did. I have some health issues that I'm sure are caused from my father's exposure. I'm a single mom and worry about my son having health issues from Agent Orange. This is something very close to my heart. My Dad served his time at Khe Sanh. Where was your Dad during the war? I like talking to kids of Vets, helps me know I'm not alone and you are not alone. Our returned veterans in new Zealand were not well treated either. Why do people blame the soldiers. They did what all good soldiers do they obeyed orders. You are all noble and honorable soldiers. Those that didn't come home alive R.I.P Thank you all

@ Bill Turner: Hello Bill, i always wondered how the Australian Vietnam Veterans were treated when they returned home. You guys got the same treatment. I didn't know that. I took my R& R in Sydney and i must say that the Australian people are wonderful people. I had a great time in Sydney and i would love to go back again someday, but I'm 72 now and i don't have the money to go back again. I want to thank all the Australian people for giving me such a great time.

I don’t remember much about the Vietnam War except for how our troops were treated when they came home & my Mama sitting in front of the tv every day crying because a lot of her friends were over there. And right there & then I decided that I would thank each & every Soldier that I seen for their service & sacrifices for my freedom. Since the age of 7 I am not going to try to tell how many I have welcomed home as I’ve been doing that for 50 years now. I have had the honor of welcoming home some of our Vietnam Veterans home. I’ll never forget my 1st one home, I went to make a payment for my niece in Kingsland, Ga. & as I was leaving a truck was pulling in. It was an older gentleman & he had a Vietnam Veteran sticker in his back glass. I threw my car into reverse. I parked my car & waited for him to get out of his truck, I walked up to him & said “ Excuse me as I extended my hand & said I just wanted to tell you thank you for my freedom & welcome home” He started crying & I did too as I wrapped my arms around him & it was one of those hugs you feel deep down in your soul & he said “ Thank you so very much, you are the only person that has ever told me that” & I absolutely lost it. I love you all & I say with so much love & gratitude THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE & SACRIFICES THAT YOU HAVE MADE FOR ME & MY FAMILY. GOD BLESS YOU ALL 🙏🇺🇸❤️🙏🇺🇸🤍🙏🇺🇸💙🙏

Much thanks, love, respect and prayers for all those who honorably served to help establish a free Republic of South Vietnam. I am a first generation Vietnamese/American who came to the United States of America in 1964. Your sacrifice was not in vain so long as there is even one person who truly longs for freedom. To any Vietnam veteran who may happen to read this... I wasn't even a teenager when you guys returned home. But I remember my late father, a WW2 veteran becoming disturbed at hearing how you were treated on returning home. Ours is a family with over two hundred years of voluntary military service in America and Europe. I'm a veteran now and when I'm asked why I served, I reply that I served for those who came before me, for those who served with me, and for those who would serve after me. You have my apologies for the way you were mistreated, and my gratitude for having served. God Bless each and every one of you ! Virtual Salute !
