That why my grandpa always said "soldiers on the battlefield are enemy, but when they off the battlefield they are actually respect to each other."

Many war vets will tell you it was nothing personal. You are fighting for your country not because you hate the person on the other side and want to kill them. When it is over, and peace is declared, you move on to the next fight. This is an incredible story that proves time can heal all wounds.

UofMichFan u can’t delete one war with one beautiful positive situation .. we all obviously weren’t there but just imagine the suffering other soldiers went this alone doesn’t prove anything

It's different with pilots. The plane itself takes most of the hate. My grandfather was a pilot in the USSR, and he said to me once "You don't hate the man in the cockpit, you hate the metal he's surrounded in and the roundel its wings"

What a big lesson of tolerance, simplicity and friendship. This example shows how absurd a war is. Any war. A long life to these wonderful people.

This story is wonderful and warms my heart. My Great Grandad, a Boatswain, went down with his merchant ship, The SS Borg, while bringing back iron ore from Bilbao, in the English Channel during WW1, leaving five young children fatherless. I later found out that it was torpedoed by German U boat 103, which was sunken by British forces a few months later. That was the point that I realised no one wins in war.

For many vets out there who are still trying to forget their past , this proved that confronting your past and forgiving your enemy can lift all that weight off your chest and bring closure to an uncomfortable past

Beautiful story but his ending of friends who didnt have chance to meet is bullshit and why our country is dillusional in this generation. No it was enemies with a country and difrent ways and pearlharbor between them. But the beauty was they didnt blame eachother for what they protected. Their countries. And after said n done to forgive and find frienship is an unlikly ending but should show people your worst enemy can be your best friend if you just forgive
