It's so sad to see she hasn't got married until now while missing her ex lover and daughter. She was already devastated to part with her ex lover and later on had to send her daughter away without knowing what's the future would be. She's so loyal but we can imagine how lonely she was. I'm crying.

I think that is a testament to how sincere she is regarding the love she had towards her daughter and guilt she felt for having to separate. Mainly vietnamese used American men when it suited them for status during the war and when the war ended they ditched the children (some even abandoned them on the street) because they were concerned about the stigma of having a mixed American child and so they could find a spouse and start new family. This woman is exception although no longer with the american she truly loved her daughter and seperated solely to give her baby a better life and tried to keep as much contact to find her even when she was an infant (this is how you know she is sincere).

She didn’t feel like she had to let her baby go. She absolutely knew she had to for the sake of her baby. It was the same in Korea during that war. Mix raced babies caught hell. They would have had a horrible life.

My aunt during the war in Vietnam met an American soldier and shacked up with him. One day she woke up and he was gone leaving a stack of cash on his pillow. She was heartbroken and then scared after finding out she was pregnant. She cried to my grandmother who told her to “get it together. I will help you raise the baby and if you don’t want to raise it I will!” Well my aunt did get it together and my cousin is one of the best people I know. My grandma was more fortunate, she already had 6 kids and she met my step grandpa (an American soldier) they had 3 more kids together and he brought all of them to America with him. It’s crazy hearing these women stories and seeing how strong they were to make such heartbreaking decisions in hopes it is the best move for their children.

This story is unfortunate, but it is significant for reuniting the daughter and mother. I came to the US with my half-Vietnamese and American sister. When I was in the Philippines, we gave the US embassy my half-sister's father's dog tag; the US embassy was able to locate my half-sister's father in America. He is still alive but won't accept my sister as a daughter because he has a good family in America. He even wrote a letter to us and said, "Thank you" for caring for my daughter, but I guess because of his second wife and family. He rejected my sister, and she cried a lot. Unlike this story, she found her mother, and I am very happy for them. I understand the mother's story; I hope the daughter will forgive her. I grew up in Vietnam, and the majority of mixed kids would be punished either by the Vietnamese government or become the children of the dust.

My cousin is in a similar situation. His mother met his dad during Vietnam War in 1975. When I was very little, I overheard the conversation that his mother had made an effort to find his dad in the U.S. so that the dad and son can reconnect but no prevail. With advanced technology, I believe it’s much easier to search now a day. Her son has been in the US for 40+ years. Sometimes I wonder if he ever had the curiosity to search for his other side of family in the US.

Also it seems the letter was never arrived but idk tho . Leigh said in the interview, "I learned that my biological dad and his wife had divorced. He never remarried. However, he did have custody of my half-sister, Bonnie. He pretty much lived on a motorcycle, went to dive bars, hung out with a lot of vets. And he and my half-sister traveled around a lot.
