The ´´plastic¨ mine shown at 8:36 is nearly identical to the Soviet version used in Afganistan during the 80´s, back then the Russians cought a lot of flak for waging ´´indecent warfare´´ ( and rightly so ) against the Afgani population. reminds me of the pot calling the kettle black.

+IrishBoer South Vietnam was not free. Neither of them were. Both were dictatorships. Both had leaders who ruthlessly murdered opposition to them.

Vietnam War was made like the separation of South Vietnam and North Vietnam, here is the truth about it: South Vietnam was no a land that Vietnam had own historically, it was belong to Cambodia where Khmer Empire owned and Khmer Aboriginal people belong there since prehistory. Back the thine, Vietnam had asked our that for military base for a period when they were in war. Time went by they denied to return back instead they sent their people moved there more and more until outnumber to Khmer local. During French colony, french asked that land would go to Cambodia or Vietnam, then they made a voting campaign that let people there decided. The trick was that Vietnam authority told all Khmer Indigenous going to the farms instead of participatong the vote. The result was land to Vietnam and it became South Vietnam. Hey Vietnam how smart you were and you are. Look at our Khmer people to day we are like an estranged dog.

What ? How can people vote under French Colony ? Both Vietnam and Cambodia back then were monarchy. It's true that Nguyen Lord take over Mekong Delta region from Khmer Empire. But when the French were in Indochina, South Vietnam was Cochinchina. Cochinchina was ruled directly by the French, both de jure and de facto, and was represented by a deputy in the National Assembly in Paris. At the end of colonial, French left Cochinchina to Bao Dai. No way was there any election. And pretty sure Southen Kinh ethnic already had bigger population than Khmer ethnic in the region or entire Cambodia population back then. Can you show me source on this ?

The absolute fact was South Vietnam was a n ally of the United States we were only there to support our allies. North Vietnam was the aggressor murdering and killing people in South Vietnam. When we began bombing North Vietnam LBJ micro managed the bombing by selecting the targets for the air force. This was a very big mistake. The target selection was done selecting bridges power plants and a few other targets. Not really military targets. Targets should have only have been military targets, ports, factories and military personnel while they were still in North Vietnam thus destroying their ability to move soldiers and supplies into South Vietnam by way of the roads and trails to South Vietnam. The bombing should have been very intense and as aggressive as necessary to stop the agression into South Vietnam. Plain and simple we stop bombing when the agression stops from North Vietnam into South Vietnam. This should have been our plan from day one. Our only purpose was to stop the agression into South Vietnam from North Vietnam.

Well even though u r not wrong, there are alot more than just mindlessly sacrifies people (and believe me there were alot of blood, just ask a formal Vietcong they are not please with how their superiors conducted campain). We know that the American public could quickly go against the war if their boys are dying in foreign soil, and we could do that if we design a type of war that drain a tough man clean of morale. And that was exactly what we did.

They won because the Democrats in the US Congress cut off Aid to South Vietnam while the Soviets gave tons of sophisticated military technology to the Communist North. When they finally succeeded in conquering the whole country nearly 3 million Vietnamese flood their hell on Earth regime.

@@tedmccarron According to CIA document the US have aided South Vietnam 16 billion USD of weapons to compare with 3.5 billion USD of weapons that the North received from China and Soviet Union, but as you know, South Vietnam is a corrupted government and they can not even made their soldiers ready to fight against the communist

@@vinhlong7347 in the final months of the war the Democrats in America cut off Aid to South Vietnam while the Soviets ramped up their support of North Vietnam giving them much sophisticated military equipment. That's the only reason they won.

@@tedmccarron No need to wait for the final month, the 1975 Spring Offensive have started from December 1974 and the South couldn't made any effective counter attack against the Vietcong, not much large scale battle in the last month until 10 days before the Fall of Saigon when the Vietcong started to attack all nearby bases with conventional warfare. I also need to remind you that even with the direct support from the American, the South Vietnam army couldn't hold many important bases such as Camp Carol, Quang Tri Combat Base or Loc Ninh Combat Base in 1972.
