Great video! I live in California and really miss the egg coffee in Hanoi. We always stopped by Cafe Giang the last 3 times in Hanoi, as well as Cafe Pho Co. As far as Banh Mi goes, one of my favorite is Banh Mi Queen in Hoi An.

I had my first banh mi in Hoi An in Dec 2011. Absolutely amazing. Love ‘em! You’ve made me hungry now! I’ve never had egg coffee, but will when I next come to VN - I’m planning for May/June this year!!!!!!! 🙏🤞🙃 But, I do like ca phe. Haha! The hardest part is waiting for the coffee to drip through 😅

Chúng ta không cần phải nói như người bản xứ đâu. Quan trọng là chúng ta nói hết ý, rõ ràng, chậm rãi cũng được. Cuộc đời của một người trưởng thành còn có biết bao nhiêu điều phải làm, cơm áo gạo tiền, nhà, xe, nuôi con ăn học..... trong khi sức thì càng ngày càng hao mòn. Mặc dù ở Mỹ hơn 30. Đến giờ tôi vẫn học tiếng Anh mỗi khi rảnh. Lắm lúc tôi cũng buồn vì tiếng Anh của mình còn tệ. Tuy nhiên tôi không bao giờ cảm thấy hổ thẹn với bản thân khi so sánh với hàng triệu người Mỹ bản xứ. Vì tôi cũng cố gắng lấy được tấm bằng 4 năm, ngành computer science. Từ hai bàn tay trắng ngay từ ngày đầu đặt chân tới Mỹ, sau khi ra trường, lăn lộn với cái job đầu tiên, chỉ trong vòng 10 năm, tôi đã trả xong căn nhà mới tinh (tôi là chủ đầu), có giá trị hiện tại là hơn một triệu ở Cali. Trải qua 3 công ty, đến nay tôi đã làm việc hơn 20 năm. Hiện tôi rất bằng lòng những gì mình đang có. Nhưng tiếng Anh của tôi không thăng tiến cùng lúc so với vật chất mà tôi tạo ra. Nơi tôi làm việc hơn 20 năm qua, những người tôi làm việc chung và tiếp xúc hàng ngày đều là những người nói tiếng Anh là ngôn ngữ thứ hai, họ là những kỹ sư lập trình đến từ Ấn Độ, Trung Quốc, Nga, Việt Nam. Ở nơi làm việc như thế, chúng tôi chỉ quanh quẩn nói về dự án đang làm, một chút về gia đình.... chứ không có giờ mà luyện tập tiếng Anh nói về thiên nhiên, đời sống, khoa học, thể thao, con người, đất nước, thế giới động vật.... Người lớn, chúng ta có khuynh hướng nói ít, ngẫm nghĩ nhiều, tôn trọng ý kiến mọi người, không muốn tranh luận... do đó, tiếng Anh cũng không có đà phát triển. Tôi nói giọng chuẩn, mỗi ngày học được nhiều từ nhưng cũng mau quên là vì mình không dùng nó. Nếu bạn làm ở trong ngành nghề có lương thấp hơn ở Mỹ ở trong các công ty, bạn sẽ dùng tiếng Anh nhiều hơn ở với những kỹ thuật viên, kỹ sư với số lương cao hơn nhiều. Theo tôi, bạn đừng buồn khi tiếng Anh bạn yếu, chỉ cần chăm chỉ học. Ở Mỹ muốn thành công, bạn cần phải có một kỹ năng là chính, tiếng Anh không cần lưu loát như người bản xứ, đừng bặp bẹ quá là OK. Hàng ngàn người bản xứ trong công ty tôi và ở ngoài đời có cuộc sống nghèo nàn hơn so với người nhập cư là vì họ không có kiến thức và kỹ năng làm việc. Hãy nhớ điều đó. Bỏ hết thời gian và sức lực học tiếng Anh trong khi không học thêm một kỹ năng, tiếp thu kiến thức ngành nghề thì chẳng khác gì một người Mỹ bản xứ nghèo nàn. Trong tận đáy tim tôi, tôi buồn phải tha hương, phải học nói tiếng Anh để kiếm sống... Tôi chỉ ước ao VN mình được giàu mạnh như Nhật. Họ hãnh diện với ngôn ngữ của họ. Họ chỉ quan tâm và tập chung những công việc trong nước, chứ họ không ra nước ngoài học tiếng Anh để mong đổi đời. Những nước có số người nói tiếng Anh là ngôn ngữ thứ hai toàn là những nước còn nghèo.

Yes it’s a great pairing. After walking the Night Bazaar went to Dinh Liet get the Banh Mi cross the street to enjoy it with egg coffee in Kafa Cafe. Banh Mi beats Subway hands down.

I love these sandwiches! I’ve only tried them in China where we have lots of Vietnamese restaurants. The first time I tried it I said it was the best sandwich I’d had in Shanghai! All my mates who have been to Vietnam say it’s even better there. Can’t wait to try one in Hanoi soon!

I had Banh Mi when i was in the HCM aka Saigon, but I found it to taste similar to the Aussie version of bread roll. I am still asian at heart and would still prefer rice and noodles any day... haha...

I had that egg coffee with rum at Da Nang(Irini resto) and as the name suggests, it’s sweet alcoholic in a nice way. It’s delicious but it’s one of those drinks that you have to follow up with a glass of water after consuming to clear your throat. Banh Mi in Hoi An is awesome too with that herbal flower juice(I forgot the name).
