I grew up in the states with my parents always saying thank you as “cám ơn”…..Only just recently last year did I realize we can also say “cảm ơn”…..I always find it confusing that in learning the Vietnamese language that there are so many ways of saying things 😅

Thanks for sharing! I'm generalising here, but I've noticed that Cảm is more common in the north and Cám is more common in the south. I tend to just say cảm actually. The southern pronunciation of Ả is closer to Á compared to if a northerner say Ả and Á. I've seen some foreigners having trouble distinguishing the southern pronunciation of dấu hỏi and dấu sắc. I'll admit it's similar but you can definitely hear the difference though.
