March, 10th. 1:57 AM at the top of La Palma. One Camera near “Monumento de Infinito”, a sculpture by famous Lanzarote Artist César Manrique installed 1985 on the occasion of the inauguration of the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory. Just a few kilometres away a second Camera directly at Roque de Los Muchachos. More than 2200 meter above the ocean and a sea of clouds we´re looking to Tenerife with it`s huge Mt. Teide, Spains highest mountain (3715m). The two Cameras are programmed to shoot timlapses of the rise of our galaxys core followed by a crecent moon and three planets in the dawn above the nearby Island.Suddenly this bright meteor approaching to the Island appears in one frame of the timeapse. It might be a common iron-nickel meteor which causes the intense greenish glow from the vaporized outer layer while traveling to the atmosphere.
- - -
The main picture obtained from the timelapse is a slightly cropped single frame shot with Sony A7rIII and Samyang 1.2 / 85 at f 1.8 - 6s exposure with ISO 4000. Because of a slight Calima (Dust from Sahara desert which regulary is blown to the Canary Islands) the seeing wasn´t the best near to the horizon, but we can adumbrate the Antares region rising just right of the meteor.
- - -
The Picture gone viral a little bit with 10000 Likes on two IG-Accounts of The World At Night (TWAN) and roycebairphoto with his N I G H T S C A P E R • Photo Award, over 12000 likes at the FB-Page from the APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) and thousends of shares and comments all over the social media channels. So thanks for the supply and enjoy the short video :-)

Fascinating. I've seen plenty of time lapse sky shots before, but not in 3d. Impressive but slightly scary too. It highlights the immenseness of space. I think it is the real horizon that does that, rather than immersion effect of vr.

Good observation! If you look closer, they aren't moving (different appearance and distance), but light up and go out one after the other - so geostationary satellites which are illuminated by the sun while the earth (with the satellites) rotates.

Any chance it might have been a laser atmospheric sampler associated with the telescope on Tenerife?
@fehrpics
@fehrpics 2 жыл бұрын
Good idea, but it's not in line with the Observatory at Izaña and it's nearly impossible to shoot the end of a laser beam middle in the air.
@ckdigitaltheqof6th210
@ckdigitaltheqof6th210 2 жыл бұрын
Well, its possible to witness the stream path of the laser from the atmosphere, regardless of it came from the sky or ground, so it may implament some kind of SDI project or path marking of a sky gaze instrument. Unfortunatly the frame rate wasn't any higher to determine it as debree fall or light particle stream.
@fehrpics
@fehrpics 2 жыл бұрын
@@ckdigitaltheqof6th210 In the not existing case of a Laser it would obviously did not origin out of the sky getting brighter and brighter traveling to the earth. This fit's perfect to what is happening when a meteor enters the atmosphere and getting hotter and hotter because of the friction. Even when we suppose the absolute unlikely case it's additionally absolute unlikely to shoot the beginning of a laser beam traveling through the air. It's just a meteor - no aliens, no devilthing, no SDI, no Laserwhatever - just a fuc.. boring meteor like thousend others.
