First time I heard Are You Experienced, and specifically 3rd Stone From The Sun, was my “oh my” moment for guitar tone. I was 13, it was 1988, and I was barely beginning to learn to play.

Ha, Mick, I've had that riff of yours in E - the one that starts with the half-step dissonance of the open high E and the 4th fret on the B, a bit like "Where Is My Mind?" - periodically stuck in my head for like 4 years now

46:00 merch idea: welly hat knobs. Toe could do the work of a chickenhead, the grip improves grip, added height makes for ease of use in tight spaces…plus it fits the English blues as transplant of black American rural music to the UK, and our farmers have to deal with a whole lotta mud. Sort of gum boot sub for gumbo.
Matt's a buddy of mine and I always enjoy watching him play, it's unreal how talented he is. ☮️❤️🎸

Dan: As you noted Dr Z offers quite a few models. Given your long history with Vox and related, I suggest trying out these: X-Ray, Z Wreck and Z-80. All are different but were done by Z in collaboration with Brad Paisley. (To be exact, the X-Ray is derived from the Stang Ray and DB-4, both BP / Dr Z collabs.) Z's other amps also are really good, but you'll be able to pick up on Z's take on a sonic zone that you know so well. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

For Dr Z i’d say start at the source and try the Carmen Ghia. 18w single channel, 2xEL84, 1x12ax7, 1x5751 and a 5y3 rectifier. 1 volume, 1 tone. Based on a hammond organ reverb amp.

if you are accustomed to jensen style speakers, all celestions may sound dark to you. a g12h is bright for celestions, but has a lot of extended lows as well, and lacks the really bright brights of "american" voiced speakers, which feature smaller voice coils and magnets and thinner paper cones.

For the Dr. Z amps…… They’re all pretty awesome. I own a couple (Maz 18 mk2 non reverb and a Z28 mk2) The other guitar player I play with has a z-wreck jr which is awesome. Z says his favorite circuit is the maz18 nr. The maz pre-amp is his jumping off platform for a few of his amps by incorporating different power sections.

I distinctly remember seeing and hearing the Red Hot Chili Peppers live at the Olympia on TV. Them playing Otherside, that Gretsch through Marshall was what really hit me. At that time, playing the first notes of Californication on my dad's old Dreadnought sounded like the real deal to me. As well as hearing a Squier Strat through a 10 watt transistor amp with distortion in the store, that was THE sound. Just last night at rehearsal my bandmates and I were talking about this stuff, where we tell kids to learn something else than what they want, to get them to play better or more theory. To me that is wrong. What worked for me was wanting to sound like Frusciante playing that Gretsch, and getting enough glimpses of that through my dad's acoustic and (one month after I saw RHCP live first, 2003) my Squier Strat, that I enjoyed spending time making those sounds.

It’s perhaps too obvious, but there is a volume pot on the left of the control panel. I thought it went down to zero?! But maybe not…. Try that and come back if it’s not that…..

@@ThatPedalShow no it happens when you turn it on. No matter the settings. I'm using a stereo set up.
@ThatPedalShowАй бұрын
Oooh, that's odd. Could possibly be buffering thing. Ie, low output impedance driving cable runs more efficiently? Sory we can't be more help - perhaps a question for CTS. Good luck!

@@ThatPedalShow I moved some of my pedals around. It turns out whatever pedal I put after my analogue delay pedal is quite a bit louder. Does that make sense? The pedal after the delay gets louder.

Just a bit of static build up. Hit the pedal a few times should clear the pop.
