I've had one foot in the digital world and one in the analog for so long I have lost a sense of preference. I have compared both to each other until each has been "maximized" - countless times. I started playing acoustic (no pedals) and then got a coupe of them. I needed more for church support - but was initially underwhelmed. Ten years later I have a board and a multi-effects pedal and constantly tweak each to improve recording. I have given up all expectation of being satisfied so I keep tuning into build my understanding of the limitations of all the gear I have.

Wow, what a lovely surprise to see your enjoyment of the photo of Michael M. and me. Was not expecting it at all. Thank you. I've just finally had a chance to watch this installment of VCQ. I usually get to watch at some point late night each week, often when I'm in front of the old computer doing a little work on a guitar. I love to do my own setups and I probably change strings more frequently than I need to. But I'm an old fart with GAS. Thanks so much for the Gregory Kochery show. I'm a huge fan of his as well. I built a Partscaster with his signature Fishman Fluence Gristle-Tone tele pickups, that I love to play. He's the quickest wit in all of KZbinland, and his playing is inspired. And of course when it comes to inspiration, TPS is so reliably there for me. I'm always inspired by your wisdom and years of dedication and sometimes pain in the pursuit of that sound that lives in your heart, and needs to come out in your hands. Thank you. I'm delighted to be able to share this experience with you guys. I live in Riverside, which is halfway from LA to Palm Springs. But I come into LA almost weekly. If you do decide to come to NAMM this year, please let me buy you dinner one night? I do know how to eat well in SoCal. Or at least a nice bottle of wine or and adult beverage of your choice. All the best to all of you at the TPS family. Thanks again. - Jordan Lund

Mick talking about the sensory experience aspect - my first real tube amp, a Vox AC30, had a definite (pleasant, I'd say) smell once the tubes got warm (that thing did heat up a small room, too). It definitely enhanced the experience of playing it in the space, beyond just that glorious sound.

On the topic of micing. I use a dual element mic, dynamic + condenser, originally intended for kick drum, but absolutely lovely on cabs. Mine is a Audio Technica but recently some other brand does it as well. Perfectly phase aligned, massive sound when panned hard right and left, or balance them out to adjust EQ. Avoids headaches in the micing department and always a great tone on tap!

Re. the David Gilmour Strat, the neck is a fat 50s and the bridge a Duncan SSL 5. It has a switch to combine the neck with the bridge. On Comfortably Numb it was either the SSL5 or a DiMarzio FS5, but the definitive version for me is the Pulse version with the EMGs.

Yes there really is a place in California called Eureka. I have relatives that live there and have done for the last 20 years. its on the edge of the redwood forests, my aunts place regularly has eagles, hummingbirds flying around and its close to another town with the more prosaic name of Arcata which looks like the town centre of Hill Valley from Back To The Future except its over-run with stoners. 😀 Theres a university nearby which so far as I remember, specialises in marine biology. Its an interesting place. I bought a Taylor GS Mini there in 2013 which I kept for years. ... the only downside is that its an absolute pig to get to from London. An absolute pig of a journey. Did it once, never ever ever again.

On the subject of Marshall combo amps, I have a JCM2000 TSL122, 100watts, 3 channels, 2 effects loops, spring reverb, and two different speakers as standard! Celestion vintage and heritage. I also have the match two speaker extension cab. Great sounding amp and really nice clean channel to boot. I pair it with a hiwatt custom 50 in TPS wet/dry 👌and I completely agree with mick, fender strat is the best guitar shape ever, so fight me too!!👊🏽

I’ve got the 100w Marshall Vintage Modern half stack with the Hendrix greenbacks. You could buy the head and cab for about £500 at one point, but i think people are catching on and prices have gone up a bit since then. Brilliant amp. I’ve got the 20w Laney Lionheart combo too (parallel single ended design). Yes i buy all the amps that other people dont 😆

Amp tech here, regarding the person with AC15 with new tank but has to turn up far before they hear it. If you just replaced the tank, is it the right tank? If the impedances of the in and out transducers are not right it could cause that problem. I had an old Gibson reverb unit across the bench with germanium transistors and you could barely hear the reverb. Someone replaced the tank and it was the wrong impedance on the input transducer. Bought the right one and it sounded glorious. Of course it could always be the reverb cables too, so worth checking those out too

About the Rattler, I had the same problem when we used to play Gary Moore walking by myself. All other songs, there was no problem. I would say it it the bass player, who plays lower notes or other guitar or keyboardplayer.

I've not seen many "gig" at the Royal Albert, I've seen many a classical concert though, the Halle playing Bach was pretty awesome. my pedalboard is almost sorted now, just the volume/wah to source and a digital thingy with expression pedal that shifts pitch in a Gilmour styli. My Vox's are doing the bizz. (2 x 15AC watt and a Valvetronix 15). I have a small collection of low power amps now. On comments - I used to gig at a legendary pub in Burnley, Lancs - where if you played you got the shout - "Get off your sh*t" - but that was good! If the audience ignored you altogether you know they hated you. It was a very tough local gig, but if they loved you you were made! It became my local for years. I played for me, not an audience. If they loved it all good.

Only other place I've seen the miniature guitars like the ones that Dan showed was a little stationary shop in Venice Italy. The nice women working there said the owner was a player and had a bunch of different ones made. I chose a classic sunburst Casino.

I saw David Gilmore at a press launch for Remember That Night DVD at the Odeon Leicester Square - The evening started with a Q and A but most memorably it was followed by a 90 minute set of David with his black strat and Richard Wright avec Hammond C-3 Organ with Leslie speakers, no drums - The best of the night was Echoes, something I seem to remember David said they were only able to perform live later in life - Anyhow I have never been the same since - I was so lucky to be there - so sad Richard died a year or so after.

I was lucky enough to be there for the 3rd night of Remember That Night in 2006, when Robert Wyatt, Crosby and Nash and Mica Paris were the guests. There is nowhere on earth like the RAH to see DG. Those who saw him there in 2006, 2016 for Rattle That Lock and this last week or two, will remember it forever and it is a precious memory to be treasured. Ive just caught up with some YT footage of the RAH shows... the tracks I think you're referring to around the piano, Great Gig In The Sky from Dark Side of The Moon and A Boat Lies Waiting from Rattle That Lock are pretty special. Especially Great Gig In The Sky. Thats the best version I've heard since the Pulse shows in 1994. Very different, very stripped back, very emotive. Beautiful. Worth the admission price for that alone.

Hello TPS was just watching your SD-1 and TS [in your band] video and wondered have you ever done an [in your band] Fuzz episode? I'm asking becuase I find fuzzes hardest to place in a band context. I know you've touched on this issue across quite a few shows but don't think (?) you've dedicated a whole video to it... would be interested. Keep up the good work!
