From watching the shows I always got the impression that the Vor’Cha was at least as heavily armed as the E-D. It even gave the Defiant a run for its money in at least one episode. In the tng/ds9 era, that ship class was as tough as ships from that time come.

I love how the old-style phasers were exactly just what you needed to finish off the first battle! Impeccable! Also, we saw the same ion cannon/ disruptor blast on the Vor'cha in canon, on TNG. It was when the Klingon civil war first broke out and Gowron's ship was ambushed by the Duras' ships. On the show, the blast was powerful enough to destroy a bird-of-prey when its shields were down.

The Terran slaves stated they were thinking about seeking out help from the Romulans, so the Romulans were clearly a power that some thought could stand up to the Klingon-Cardassian alliance. I've watched a lot of your videos recently and if I remember correctly, this is actually the first time any ship has won after and in spite of its impulse engines having been disabled. These warp nacelles are insanely large for a Miranda-sized ship. I'm wondering if it could swim on them as if they could double act as pontoons ? Like when in need of some Deuterium just land on some ocean and suck it right through the warp engines. Or just in case the soil you landed on suddenly turns into silver liquid...
@Euripides_Panz2 ай бұрын
The nacelle mass in "normal" gravity would overcome the buoyancy and sink. Galaxy nacelles were a third of its mass. I made a plastic model work as a boat by installing and rerouting a CO² cartridge and inverting the Stardrive. The Saucer handled larger waves much better.

@JacquesLapeyre2 ай бұрын
Okay theory time: what advantage does a deflector dish offer to a starship, that isn't crucial but is useful enough that you might want to upgrade a ship adding it to a spaceframe that didn't originally need it? They are called Navigational Deflectors, so they must have something to do with warp or navigation. I know they can generate complex and exotic particle beams, but how does that ability relate to the warp drive or navigational systems? Does it deflect debris while at high warp? Does that mean ships without must confine themselves to slower warp speeds?
@chriselliottart2 ай бұрын
You're correct about the deflection of debris. The generation of particle beams was an unintended benefit of the system that was discovered later on, but originally - canonically - it was just to prevent a grain of dust from blowing a hole through the ship as it traveled at warp. Shields alone wouldn't be able to handle the impact of even a small amount of matter hitting at superluminal velocity (as far as we see in the shows, half the time they can't even handle a torpedo or two). If I've understood the lore correctly (which is actually fairly scientific), the deflector generates an immense magnetic field as well as particle field which sweeps everything small out of the path of the ship, perhaps several thousand to million feet in front of the bow, and channels it around the sides. In some of the technical literature trying to retcon the lack of deflectors on certain older classes, the miranda is specifically called out as having a "hidden" deflector that sits right behind the hull at the front of the saucer. So theoretically, this refit just exposed the deflector, perhaps for greater efficiency at the expense of less protection in a battle? Obviously just them trying to retcon the lack of deflector from older ships back before the function was fully established, but still makes some sense, I guess.
@leeforeman36562 ай бұрын
I think the deflector dish is mainly used to deflect space dust and small objects from hitting the ship. Most ships in Star Trek have them or an alternative system, such as a low-level forward shield emmiter.
