After last weeks battle against the Hirogen, somebody suggested we try the Enterprise E against them.
This is an interesting what if. I chose the First Contact version of the Sovereign Class, will the Hirogens shields and armour hold against the Sovereigns Quantam Torpedoes?
Imagine if the Enterprise E had been whisked away to the Delta Quadrant rather than Voyager!

Stranding the USS Enterprise E in the delta quadrant indeed would have made sure a different show. Jean-Luc isn't crazy enough to say, "there's tea Earl Grey hot in that nebula!" Naaa...it just doesn't have the same ring to it.

The Isokinetic Cannon thing, along with the Dreadnaught's Cardassian Quantum Torpedoes are two Grade A weapon systems that are never mentioned again for no good reason. We know we can thank for that. Thanks, Rick Berman and your no serialization mandate!

Sovy’s a beast. A really cool and different type of ship from anything seen in Trek at that time. She never got her due really.

Well when you think about it Voyager benefited from being the biggest fish in a small pond. The majority of their enemies were not impressive so that a relatively small Intrepid class was defeating most of them.

I was waiting for this match. :) The Sovereign is a really powerful ship, so the Hirogen doing this well is impressive. I played a bunch of Voyager scenarios with the Sovereign in Voyager's place; it's pretty fun.

Kovin's Isokinetic cannon from the episode "Retrospect". Would be an interesting addition to the Voyager model.

To this day, I'm puzzled as to why Voyager didn't keep the cannon, regardless of Kovin's death. It was already installed & functioning, and from what Kovin said, all it needed was basically some final fine tuning to be fully incorporated into the ship. What a waste of such potent weapon.

The Isokinetic Canon was the weapon and it pretty much was created to pubch holes through 10m of Monotanium which is what the Hirogen ships were made of. Picard probably would of quoted the Prime Directive way more and not got involved and used the array to get home or If they would of used the array to get home but left behind a timed warhead to destroy it.

The Enterprise E in the Delta Quadrant would have been a promenade. They would have painted the stars with Kazon blood! The Sovereign was a Federation battleship that was still as fast as the Intrepid Class. Everything about it is dialed up to 11 in contrast. For sure the Intrepid is a fine Heavy Destroyer, fast and versatile. But the Sovereign has both brute force and cutting edge tech, with outstanding scientific capability. The Kazon would have been zero threat. None of the Delta Quadrant races encountered would have been too much of an issue save the Borg and 8472. Type XII Phasers and Quantums, coupled with the latest Starfleet adaptive shielding, ablative armor. Oh my! It would be like a number of TNG episodes. "Mr Worf, tactical analysis." "Sir, they are no match for the Enterprise." Worf would have had a blast! On a side note, other species vessels were sent to the D-Quadrant as well. Especially the Cardassians wherein the Obsidian Order may well have intentionally tried to locate the Caretaker based off the previous experience of the Galor Class ship transported prior to Voyager's arrival (as seen in an episode). It is interesting to consider how a squadron of three Advanced Obsidian Keldons would have fared if stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Those ships are very fast (at least Warp 9.85), well armed and have a cloak. They would have murdered the Kazon for sure. Would anyone miss the Kazon?

Actually, this fight might have happened. In Picard Season 3, Picard is asked about his battle with the Hirogen, to include a hand-to-hand fight with the Hirogen Alpha. The Hirogen were far-flung, and it is not unreasonable that some made it as far as the Federation's Delta Quadrant frontier. Since Picard's last starship command was the Enterprise E, before promotion to admiral, this very fight is likely to have occurred.

I remember 1st Season TNG episodes like "Where No One Has Gone Before" and "When The Bough Breaks" where the Enterprise-D was either sent way out by the Traveler in the case of that first episode, or threatened to send them across the galaxy like the Aldeans did in that second episode after kidnapping those kids from the Enterprise. I sort of wondered what it would have been like if TNG had gone Voyager during the 1st Season as a What If. The Enterprise-D was a small city in its own right and probably could have handled such a long voyage much better than Voyager.

The Sovereign vs intrepid is no contest. Sovereign would have been less of a plot device and made for a better show

The transaction for that IsoKinetic Cannon had been completed and it was installed in Voyager. The arms dealer was on Voyager to help with increased the power efficiency until 7of9 went nuts and killed him. Not sure why it wasn't used as technically it was fully operational just that its rate of fire isn't good as it sucks up too much power. Voyager's blacklisted and any other arms dealer won't do business with them. In the ST Online, thought that Hirogen ship's warp nacelles operates like a tetryon plasma cannon/mortar similar to how a Klingon/Romulan plasma torpedo launcher works but with a faster rate of fire since it uses the nacelles' several warp coils as a capacitor for the plasma. Instead of the usual Bussard Ram Scoop in front of the warp nacelles, it's actually a plasma launcher port. The properties of the Tetryon Plasma gives it that extra damage when it hits the target.

I wonder how well the nemesis era Sovereign would fare against a stock Galaxy, Intrepid, and Defiant class team-up? I suspect multi-targeting would be needed.

Personally I've always preferred the Nemesis version of the Enterprise-E but that is me. I think the Enterprise-E would have wiped the floor with the Kazon and a lot of the other Delta Quadrant races. No surprise the Enterprise-E was able to defeat the Hirogen ship.

Yep. Only ones it would have had issues with would be Species 8472, The Borg, and The Voth. And I could see it taking out anything Borg that isn't a cube.

Voyager was equipped with an Isokinetic Cannon by that arms dealer...was never uninstalled to my knowledge. It was capable of blasting Monotanium armour...Funny the Hirogen apparently used said armour lol. A Sovereign Class wouldn't need torps vs the Kazon with those Type XII phasers...they are significantly more powerful than Voyagers Type X's.

Earlier version? I thought that the First Contact was the earliest version. Yes, if the E were pulled into the Delta quadrant, they still would have encountered most of the same problems, except (like we just saw), the E was built for war... It has a larger crew, and for a heavy cruiser, it turns very well. The shields were amazing, until the Hirogen ship exploded they never dropped below 50%. In summation, the Kazon would have been gob flies (sp?). I'm not sure about the (I forget their name)... the ones who hate telepaths. 😀 As for the Borg and 8472, I think both would have turned out the same. The E has roughly the same top speed as Voyager, but I wonder... would it have been more accepting of slipstream technology?

The first contact sovereign was the earliest version, only being in space a year at that point. I mustn't have explained it right. Heat of the battle etc 😂. Oh, the devore! Now that could an interesting fight! Their ships were solid. That's an interesting theory about slipstream. Voyager struggled and could only use it for 1 hour? The sovereign had armour which may have helped? 🖖

There was a throw away line in Season 3 of Picard where someone asks Picard how he dealt with the Hirogen. I wouldn't be all surprised for Hirogen ships to be in the Beta Quadrant on the other side of what was the Romulan Empire.

I don't think there's any Hirogen on that side of the Beta quadrant. If you go by Star Trek Prodigy set on the edge of the delta quadrant near federation space there was the Hirogen homeworld it was empty.

The hirogen hunt all over I don't know what people think about the soft canon of star trek online but there's a mission in the KDF faction where you fight them in the beta quadrant

@@denbaker7358 Well we did seeing map of there communication network in season 4 of Voyager so there was one close 2 federation romulan space. That to me indicates the area that they travel in but they could have gone beyond.

Having the Enterprise in the Delta Quadrant would have made a very different show. Part of the appeal was the shoestring nature of Voyager's supplies and crew. Being handicapped by the 'upgrade' of the neural gel packs. Having to make alliances and deals BECAUSE they were a science ship on a mission well outside their scope. Now, dropping Enterprise into that would eliminate half of their trials. The veteran crew carefully selected by Picard from the cream of Starfleet. The frankly prodigious amount of weapons the Federation flagship would have after the wakeup call of the second attack of the Borg. And the fact that she was purpose built for long cruises with a redundancy that a ship just meant to be taking care of a single mission wouldn't be able to match. We really don't appreciate the magnificent job Janeway did getting them back . . . even if they did fudge their torpedo count.

The Enterprise could've fared better - more power, better defensive and offensive capabilities, and at least as fast as an Intrepid class vessel. She might have also taken the impact better, though the larger crew would've resulted in a higher number of casualties.

The Hirogen were an epic villain, but had the most underwhelming/ugly ship designs 😬 like they were designed as a one episode throwaway. Odd for a hunter species I would’ve expected a bird of prey-like design

It didn't, though the launchers could've been modified for them. It had tricobalt devices, albeit only two of them.

One can only assume they didn't work after all because they didn't ever get seen again. There were many situations where the quantums would have been a real help for Voyager in combat.@@crownprincesebastianjohano7069
