I've always wondered "isn't it close minded to always have an open mind" -haha!! The basic concept of saying "no" is a powerful personal expression...be aware of those who want to take that choice from you (those who can't comprehend the fact that you know what you want out of 'your' life). Remember...a front door, fence/wall, and a weapon is the physical manifestation of the word 'no'. The word and concept of 'intolerance' is completely distorted in our modern 'PC' society. To live a smart, honest, and productive life, you're going to find yourself saying "no" to preserve your personal freedoms, property, and lifestyle choices that thieves, liars, and opportunists will always try to take advantage of. If someone can't tolerate the concept of 'no'... then like a selfish child, they and their opinions are not to be trusted. (SJWs, politicians, Big-Tech, anarchist-punk hypocrites ('know it all' crust-kids -haha!!), "community" organizers, the school industry, festival-kids -haha!!, liberal college professors, the music industry, Hollywood, the fashion industry, anything associated with being 'woke' -haha, Broadway, modern metropolitan tv sitcoms, corporate news/media, etc, and especially anyone who says "we" when making a speech about their own personal views and experiences to an audience (assuming that everyone agrees with them without question when simply standing amongst a gathering of people in public). These are all examples of people and industries who promote emotional fascism, cancel culture, and intolerance (because your "old-world" opinions and honest observations are just 'in the way' these days).

I definitely disagree with the guy who said that people can wear metal / band t-shirts purely for fashion. Now, I don't think that people who do it are bad people, but it's something that can be frustrating for metalheads, when they see someone with a band shirt, go up to them to start a conversation, and then they find out that that person knows jack and shit about the band. Also, in general, what you wear on your shirt is often a reflection of what you like or your hobbies. As someone who loves video games and metal, a majority of my shirts reflect those interests, and I know I'm far from the only one who does that. Also, with how passionate metal fans are about the music, that makes the scenario I painted earlier even more annoying than usual. I'm not going to call these people "posers", but they have to understand that shirts often incite conversation, and when someone comes up to you about it, and you don't know anything about what's on your shirt, that can leave a sour feeling in them, like they missed out on a great conversation, or even friendship.
@DeathMetalThrasher3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm still on the fence about it, I understand how it's people choice to wear what they want. However, this kind of thing has become part of our culture our aesthetic, etc. When you see someone wearing more obscure/less known metal band shirts though you can usually be 100% certain they're actually into the band and music. Say I see someone wearing a Malevolent Creation shirt vs. Another Metallica shirt. You don't need to wear only band shirts to be a metalhead of course we come from all walks of life. You won't see me wearing a BTS k-pop shirt that's for dam sure. It's about representation, yeah it's a free ad for the band sure. Those kind of people are just setting themselves up for unwanted questions and scrutiny.

Metal/Rock shirts have more of an actual meaning behind them because of how long it's become standard practice in our culture. We wear them because we are really passionate for this music, its also a way to find other people who can relate to it. We aren't just showing off about it, we are ALL about it. I agree with the 80's comments. I was born in the late 60's and grew up with classic rock/metal and joined the punk rock community as a very young girl. I do not live in the US but we all knew about what was going on with the PMRC, the trials of Judas Priest, the Dead Kennedys and many other debacles such as the never ending persecution of Black Sabbath. I still have the documentary somewhere on VHS (taped off the telly) about those poor kids who shot themselves after listening to Dream deceiver (name of documentary I believe). It was very eye opening to see what a complete nightmare a musical community could go through, due to complete ignorance and right wing christian sentiment. Because New Zealand had a very large Bogan culture, and our neighbours ACDC were huge, I think metal here was quite a positive thing in the 80's. However it wasn't for the underground punk community as we had to deal with an awful lot of violence both in the street and at gigs. The metal underground here is (apart from the ongoing Covid situation) rocking along very nicely. There are so many metal bands of many genres now that I've lost count. Not great for live music or touring but people are still making great music during lockdown. Hope you all are doing well. ⚔️😎

About artists in revealing clothes... It kinda depends on the artist and on the music for me. When it comes to artists, I come for the music first and foremost. The sound has to sell me on your band, not your body and I'm quite annoyed when it is clear that sexiness is used to grab the attention the music can't. When things get gratious, I start to dislike it. I also prefer it when the people on stage have an actual purpose, like being part of the band. Fire artists and the like are also very cool to see but if the role is basically "hype girl" or "hype boy", I don't think they add value. So therefore for me they shouldn't be there. When it comes to music, it really depends on the subgenre... I won't deny that I have weak spot for women in gothic-style long dresses or other attire in symphonic/gothic acts, while metalcore asks for more of a casual outfit. Depending on the genre, leather might work greatly or look out of place... While I come for the music first, I just love it when the aesthetic of the artists fits their musical style as a glove.

I like looking at women in various states of undress just as much as the next guy, but I do agree with the foundational opinion that it doesn’t really belong in metal, simply because metal doesn’t need the cheesy sales tactics used by pop singers. I also agree that there are bands out there just as good as Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, etc., dare I say maybe better. Yeah, the metal scene overall owes a lot to those bands, but their position as “founders” doesn’t make them the best. As for my own unpopular metal opinion… nobody has to be, act or dress any certain way to be a metalhead. My unpopular opinion is that metal should not be mainstream. Don't get me wrong, metal should be popular enough to have many loyal and supportive fans who buy concert tickets, band merch and talk about the music. And it is. One of the reasons I think metal should not be mainstream is that metal is sort of an escape from many things, including mainstream music. It's a great alternative. Sure, there are bands that deserve to be more popular than they are. But none of them should be as mainstream as any popstar. At least because pop stardom doesn't last long.

I personally disagree with what that one persons said about Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. They're considered some of the greatest metal bands of all time for a reason. I know I'm late, but here are some of my unpopular metal opinions. 1. I love every era of Black Sabbath, including the Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillian, and Tony Martin eras. Sure, they weren't as intense as other metal bands at that point, but they still had plenty of great albums. People who say those eras aren't good probably haven't even listened to them and can't get over the fact that Ozzy Osbourne isn't singing. Black Sabbath elitists could go fuck themselves. A band changing singers is not the end of the world. 2. I think Dio is a much better singer than Ozzy Osbourne. Don't get me wrong, I love Ozzy Osbourne and his era of Black Sabbath remains my favorite, but he also sung on my least favorite Sabbath album, Never Say Die. I'd say his solo career has higher highs than Dio's, but Dio's solo career is far more consistent. 3. Mayhem is the most overrated black metal band of all time. I do like them and Deathcrush is one of my favorite black metal records, but other than a couple other records here and there, they're really not that good. Darkthrone and Bathory have way better discographies and more good albums. I think they're more famous for their real life story than they are for their actual music. 4. I think Whitesnake is a criminally misunderstood band. People usually associate Whitesnake with being a hair metal band, but the truth of the matter is they were actually a blues rock band before going hair metal in 1987. They had multiple great members of Deep Purple and made some very good music before David Coverdale made a complete lineup change. Same thing with the Scorpions. People may be a little put off by their more mainstream, 80's stuff, but their 70's albums are kickass. If you haven't listened to Virgin Killer, you're missing out.

Mayhem is overrated because a lot of people are stuck in the Euronymous era, which while hardcore and innovative, the band's career didn't end in 1993. Musically, was the richest with Blasphemer and sounded quite unique. After 2008, it stopped being interesting, despite having great players.

Okay, but on the topic of people wearing band shirts for the fashion statement, I tend to think of those as more... learning opportunity moments? If someone is wearing it because they legitimately like the artwork, there's a decent chance that they'd probably be open to hearing more about the band and getting a few song recommendations. Especially because metal bands have this fascination with using absolutely unreadable fonts, they might just be happy to finally know what the fuck it says without using a cypher. And while it's definitely a bummer to have a false flag for one of your own, I don't think it's really as much of a sin as some people make it out to be, especially if it's a fairly generic Hot Topic style tee. Now, if someone picked up a limited special tour tee and has no idea of the significance, I can see how that would rub a few hairs the wrong way for sure. I feel like making assumptions about a person based on their knowledge of whatever band they're wearing can really push people away from wanting to know more about the band, or even the genre in general. I think it's the case with most interests/hobbies- people quit wanting to associate with toxic fuckheads, and when you toe the line of being an elitist dickwaffle it can give everyone else a bad rep.

And when you’re trying to make a t shirt look feminine it’s probably going to end up looking kinda risqué.

Unpopular opinions: indoor festivals are overrated af! You can't see much, no fresh air except the smoking area, no nature. Openair is where the magic is, smelling the market food, big beer tables, much more to explore, bands playing in forests etc. Fire-coloured artwork in Black metal doesn’t really work. Purply blue is best, many legendary bm albums are in that colour. Red and silver can be nice too, like unsung heroes (Ensiferum) Only clicky double kick drum works in metal, boomy kick doesn’t belong in metal, therefore 80s metal is overrated. Surprising yourself with CDs you never heard of from the record store is outdated, save your money by doing more research and then maybe buying it if it’s your thing.

My unpopular opinion is that good metal covers of popular songs are few and very far between. You will never hear me listening to a metal cover of a pop song, because I think it is kind of lame. If you’re going to make something metal, take a awesome movie soundtrack. For example, Caleb Hayes did a metal cover of deliver us from Prince of Egypt. That was done beautifully….. but Taylor Swift Swift songs? No thanks. Take Pirates of the Caribbean or something and make it metal. It’s more fitting IMO.

"in the 80s" well considering i can't just find a new band by sitting on my behind and going online, no, i wouldn't really find many of the bands i love in the 80s. "i was in the front row and had to deal with crowdsurfers and moshing" yeah. ok, grandma, don't go near the front center stage than. there are ways to avoid moshing and crowdsurfing, even at festivals. i tend to gravitate torwards the area where it does happen but only if i managed to get rid of stuff i don't want lost or broken. as for female metal musicians wearing revealing clothes: i am a guy so i am not gonna hold it against them. yes, it might get a band noticed faster than it would if they didn't have an attractive girl on their video thumbnail. but its not like people are actually buying tickets, CDs or merch unless the music is good as well. most of the ladies say they wear it coz it makes them feel good so i will take their word for it. mind that as far as i am aware, the labels most of this bands are signed to simply support the bands that already seem like they would sell and don't try to change the way bands try to present themself. unlike pop where you know, the labels "guidance" often also dictates what the artists are gonna wear.

Pretty unpopular opinion, but purism is stagnating black metal, killing all the creativity from it and causing all "true black metal" to directly copy the few great names of the second wave BM with absolutely nothing to give to the genre, every album sounding exactly like the 10 greatest black metal bands. it's fundamentally destructive ideology to the point of religiousness, condemning artists for using their own brain and inspiration when writing their music, forbidding evolution for not sounding exactly like something that has already been repeated over and over. exactly same path that already killed thrash metal. gladly not all the new wave black metal bands follow this ideology.

Ahh, as a newly-converted doom metal fan, I got some suggestions for you. Either there you are averse to extreme metal's over-reliance of blast beats or fast tempo, or you just love the sludgy tone, or the simplicity and rawness of Folk Americana that is Blues. You can always try the in-between doom genres, like death-doom, black/doom, blacken death-doom. From then ,you can further go through the-slower-route with funeral doom (death-doom with funeral dirges) and drone doom, or go through a-bit-faster-route with sludge metal (doom metal with hardcore punk). Or, you can go towards the black metal end of the spectrum with depressive suicidal black metal (doomy black, as opposed to blacken doom?). Not all of these band have harsh vocals, a hundred percent of the time. And even then, some regular doom metal bands are starting to incorporate harsh vocals too, like Anguish. Heck, I now realized that even in the middle of the 80's, some bands had naturally sludgen their sound unconciously, and were the prototypes of all the bands I mentioned earlier...Dream Death, even Celtic Frost (their current incarnation,Triptykon, too). Also, beatdown, downtempo and slam, as they were all kinda started by Sabbath-worshippers amongst the New York hardcore scene in the late-80's.

I don't like when I show some people some songs from some of my favorite metal bands and they here stuff like Satan or drug usage or black magic etc. but its upsetting because they get turned off by it and I try to explain it's not about Satan it's just experiences some metal bands have like what they saw or nightmares they had and wanna share a story it's not like they actually do it I mean you got certain groups who do but not all metal is like that I just simply look at metal like a getaway fun experience and like a book but with sound. Not all of it has to do with evil.

Honestly anytime I hear someone say that death angel or testament or overkill should replace one of the bands is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard because like it or not anthrax Megadeth slayer and Metallica we’re the OG 4 and happen to make a bigger impact on thrash. Death angel and testament were formed after all members of the big four albums A few years after all bands in the big four already had albums out. And as for overkill or exodus they May have been around since 1980 but didn’t put out any albums or thrash metal until 1985. Don’t get me wrong I love all the bands that I just talked about but I know their places and I accept it. Edit: now that I think about it I am wrong about one thing. Megadeth is actually the only band (if any) that should be replaced because they didn’t form until 1983 and didn’t put out an album until 1985 but it makes sense Kinda because Dave was writing thrash with Metallica in the beggining.

Unpopular opinion: As a girl, I hate most of those famous bands with women(mostly singers, like Alissa from Arch Enemy for example) . I get really impressed when I find a decent band with a decent female member(for example Liz Buckingham from Electric Wizard, Jo Bench from Bolt Thrower, Onielar from Darkned Nocturn Slaughtercult, Simone Pluijmers from Cerebral Bore...)because its really rare. They are typically used to catch guys' attention and usually don't add that much to the music itself. I fuckin hate when a band is famous just because of half naked women or just because they are women and good looking. Let's be real, many female bands play stuff that if a male band played nobody would care about. Also, I really dislike most of the 'metalhead' girls, since a tone of them just tries too hard to be metal and cares more about the looks and attracting metal dudes instead of the music itself. I never met a girl, in person, who genuinely enjoyed metal and was not a hoe or said that she was 'metal' because of listening to nirvana and slipknot or something like that.

Conversely if a woman feels more empowered fully clothed it would also be weird to think she should remove those clothes. Women are humans. They have diverse emotions and feelings. It isn't up to me to decide what they find empowering or demeaning, it's up to them. If they're doing it as nothing but a way to get sales and their heart isn't into that type of performance that sucks. If they're doing it because they're into that kind of performance, that is cool. Ask them what they prefer instead of asking a bunch of sweaty dudes. Half of the imbeciles listening to metal can't even get their peckers wet, so asking them about how they view women is akin to asking a corporation to support unions. Try talking to women sometime.
