I am always surprised when I watch this channel and NRF on how many shops do such a poor work when they are supposed to be professionals. Nothing is more frustrating for a tech trying to clean up someone else's poor work. Also reduces the chance of a successful repair.

11:15 They were trying to install a glitch chip (Probably a Picofly, Hwfly or Instinct-NX), to run unsigned code like custom firmware and homebrew. To install the mod the chip needs to connect to the capacitors on the APU for glitching and to the DAT0 point on the eMMC on the back of the mainboard. The capacitors near the eMMC have solder on them because they are being used as anchor points for a DAT0 adapter which sildes under the eMMC.

I was very disappointed when I had to send my Switch OLED in for repairs. It seemed like a simple fix of replacing the Wi-Fi chip, but the repair shop just gave me a brand new console and no information about why they decided to deem my console "unfixable". All my data was on the old console and is now lost forever. Unfortunately, because I had a warranty, I did not try to repair it myself. I love the work you did in this video, keep on fixing!

Hey man, when you were working on the "modded" switch, I'm very well aware of what the mod is and how it works. The person who attempted to mod this is clearly new to soldering. No flux used(or they used the terrible paste flux), too much heat on the capacitors on the SoC, and they scraped wayy too much solder mask around the via (not the larger rectangular ground pad next to it) to the top right of the cpu (where the shielding was cut). Very surprised they didn't Bridge that via to the ground plane next to it. That is a cpu clock point used by a modchip for timing when to inject a payload.

For the OLED Switch, they were installing a modchip most likely, for which you need to solder to the CPU (SP1 & SP2) and more on the OLED model. You need microsoldering knowledge and a microscope, but a lot of people try to do it by eye and mess it up. EDIT: As mentioned below my comments, their soldering to DAT0 went very very wrong, which is also needed for an OLED install

The key to rent to own stores. Is to pay it off as quickly as possible. If you buy something like a Nintendo switch from a rent to own store. Try to pay it off in like 3 months. You're going to pay an extra 50 bucks on top of what the switch cost but you didn't have to come up with that money all in one chunk

Looks like someone was attempting to install the mod chip on that 2nd swtich which basically allows you to hack the Nintendo Switch's firmware and run homebrew and unlicensed games. However it is not like installing a playstation mod chip and is much more difficult requiring decent microsoldering skills and equipment. The person who attempted the mod obviously had neither.
