The line is "Top to toe in tailbacks" which means stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. In British English, tailback means a long line of traffic that is moving slowly or not moving at all, because something is blocking the road.

How nice to see Ty back, and I hope all three of you had a wonderful holiday...as well as all of the 502 Crew. Chris Rea's voice is always a great combination of grittiness and warmth, and he puts it to good use on this song.

When you are driving by yourself through the sleet and the traffic, this will calm you right down and put you in a nostalgic mood. You will hug everyone just a little harder when you arrive. Great tune.

This is wonderful, puts you in a great mood driving home for Christmas. Chris Rea is a very underrated musician, he plays instruments, writes the songs and sings them with his wonderful raspy voice, very sexy tone! You would do really well if you listen to more of his music, Road to Hell, Fool if you think its over, On the Beach etc. you really need to listen to him he is sooo good!!!!!!

There are a very few songs that put everyone who hears them in the same nostalgic mood. Chris Rea has written one of these with Driving Home for Christmas. Anyone who celebrates Christmas and drives home to their parents' house for Christmas as an adult knows and feels that warm, cosy mood that Chris sings about here. Awesome tune. PS: Great to see Ty back again. So he was driving home for Christmas!

Rea wrote the song many years before he first recorded it. The idea came to him when he was stuck in heavy traffic heading out of London in his wife's Austin Mini with the prospect of a long drive to his home town of Middlesbrough ahead. He told BBC Radio 4's Today program, "Driving Home for Christmas" is a "car version of a carol." He needed to get home to Middlesbrough from London's Abbey Road Studios. His wife had come down to drive him home in her Austin Mini to save money, as it was cheaper to drive than travel by train, and his record company was not willing to pay for the rail ticket. Peace out.

The album is called "New light through old windows", cause he re-recorded these songs to get out of the previous contract which hand ownership of the original recordings. Like "On the Beach". The version on this album is completely different from the version from the album named "On the Beach". Chris Rea is super talented. I lived in Europe in the 80's and he was very popular there.

Glad to see you lads enjoying this! For me, my Nan (who has sadly passed) always listened to this every Christmas and just the sound of this takes me back to being round her house for Christmas and all the ‘1000 memories’ I have of being with her for them times, brings a tear to my eye but at the same time, absolute joy as I was lucky enough to experience them times with her and the rest of my family 🎄👌 Enjoy your channel immensely dudes so keep on keeping on and much love for reacting to this song ❤️🙏😎
