Blue Rodeo have been one of my favourites groups over the past 30 years. They have a unique sound that’s a blend of folk , blues and country. They have two lead singers with quite different voices depending on which song you’re listening to. This song had Jim Cuddy. The other singer is Greg Keelor ... his voice is more in the vein of someone like Bob Dylan. Very different sounding between the two. They have too many good songs to mention , but “Lost Together” , “Diamond Mine” , “Trust Yourself” , “Rain Down on Me” , and “Hasn’t Hit Me Yet” are few of my favourites. Huge fan of your channel btw.

@@patswanson2870 As we've read from other Americans who post, many have heard of Canadian bands by being in border states or cities like Detroit and Buffalo. Often some groups are very popular in certain areas ie BTO in St Louis, RUSH in Cleveland etc before they hit the big time. By the time BR came round we were well into the era of music videos and as I have posted April Wine was one of the most played bands on the opening day of MTV. Videos were easily transferable for exposure. So, one person posting can't speak for everybody.

I love Blue Rodeo! Their first album, "Outskirts" was released back in 1987. They actually have two lead singers that sing some harmony together. The singer in this song has the best voice, by far. His name is Jim Cuddy. They did a great live show on "Austin City Limits" back in the early 90's. My favorite song by Jim Cuddy and Blue Rodeo, is called "Bullet Proof."

Love this tune! The opening verse states: "Don't tell me I'm wrong, 'cuz I've been watching every move that you make"... I used to sing this verse to my kids when they were 5-8 years of age whenever they were 'telling lies', as kids that age are prone to doing...HILARIOUS grimaces on their faces!!

While watching this I remembered another good one that has kind of slipped into obscurity. The band is The Matthew Good Band-The song is Everything Is Automatic. Written in the 90's has become somewhat prophetic now. Another great tune was Indestructible. Note: In the latter part of Every. Is Auto. is an expletive FYI. Thanks and keep Rockin.

I have seen them live many, many times - and they are just as good as in the studio. Please check out more from them - this is their first hit and an amazing start - but they have SO much more out there. Diamond Mine features the other lead - Greg Keelor - and is a fantastic song. 5 Days in May, Bulletproof, Trust Yourself, Rose Coloured Glasses, Five Will Get You Six (my personal favourite). Can't wait to see your next reaction to them. Btw - we have a lot MORE fantastic country/rock artists. Check out Dean Brody - Burning Down the House, Emerson Drive - Countrified Soul, Jason McCoy - I Feel a Sin Coming On, James Barker Band - Chills. That's just a small start. Enjoy the ride. Cheers from Ontario, Canada! :)

@Carrie-so3ro
@Carrie-so3ro 8 ай бұрын
They're popular because they are GOOD! Are you not seeing this American reaction? Americans who say that they will add them to their playlists - without being forced? Our Canadian content rules only ensured that Canadians were given an opportunity when before that time even our very own radio stations were biased towards everybody else - with the thinking that Canadian can't be that good. It WAS that good & had never really been given a chance before! You yourself are telling these two to listen to "Lost Together" (& you're right) & the Tragically Hip. Why? Because you like them right?

I’ve had two favourite bands in my 56 years on this earth, neither of which can be pigeon-holed into a single genre and both of which have had prolific, legendary careers. One is Rush and the other is Blue Rodeo. I only made it to about a dozen Rush concerts, but I’m well past two dozen (and counting) with Blue Rodeo. Rush gave us 19 studio albums. Blue Rodeo has so far given us 16. Both have written songs that are deceptively complex but so appealing to the untrained ear. Both were also best heard live and both have a cross-cutting catalogue. There are some differences, though. There are two singer songwriters in Blue Rodeo, who have long been regarded by critics and fans as Canada’s Lennon and McCartney. You’ve just heard Jim Cuddy, so it’s only fair for you to now give a listen to Greg Keelor. The entry-point for listening to Greg would be Hasn’t Hit Me Yet. I have a couple of live recordings on my “channel” (such as it is) but there’s a dope official studio version video as well as professionally produced live versions too. PS - bands like Blue Rodeo and the Tragically Hip have a devoted following in the US border states, just as far south as the waves from radio stations in Montreal, Kingston, Toronto, Hamilton, London, Windsor, Winnipeg, Regina, and Vancouver could carry their music.

Blue Rodeo has a pretty deep catalogue. The two songwriters (Jim Cuddy & Greg Keelor) have a very Lennon/McCartney vibe. Cuddy writes & sings a lot of the more straight-ahead, melodic stuff while Keelor is a bit trippier. If you want to hear more, try "Hasn't Hit Me Yet", "Bad Timing", or "Diamond Mine". If you want to be pleasantly surprised by another Canadian band that's big in Canada, you have to try Sloan. 4 singer/songwriters who are heavily influenced by a lot of great rock & pop bands from the 60s-80s. Their songs are catchy as all get out, and a lot of them have crunchy guitar riffs that go hard. I recommend "If It Feels Good Do It", "Money City Maniacs", "She Says What She Means", or "The Lines You Amend".

2 videos ago when you did "Moonlight Feels Right" and mentioned that any song with the word "moon" in it turns out to be a great song, I was going to comment that any song with the word "Blue" in it is also a great song. You should do something like this as a "marathon". All songs with the word "Moon" and all songs with the word "blue". Blue Bayou (Linda Ronstadt) Ocean Blue (a beautiful song by ABC) Okay, hold on to your nipples, because you're prolly not gonna wanna do this one, but "The Color of Blue" by... ... S Club 7! There I said it! You will have to trust me on this one, it is a great song (I think it was written by Stevie Wonder).

These guys have a huge library of hits. Problem is America never took to them unfortunately. They had a ton of hits in Canada though, kinda like The Tragically Hip. Blue Rodeo’s biggest claim to fame in the U.S. might have been their appearance as the house band in the 1990 movie “Postcards From The Edge” starring Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, Dennis Quaid, Gene Hackman, Richard Dreyfuss, and Rob Reiner. Apparently Meryl heard the band’s music by chance and loved them and said she really wanted them to be the band in the movie.

There are SO many good songs to listen to by this group & the 2 lead singers give different styles to the types of songs they perform as well. Lots of their great ones to listen to are already listed here in your comments section already - (I will just say that well, I like ALL of their songs & "5 Days in May" - is one of my favourites, I find the video a little disturbing in parts for that one. I know that I must be missing the message but the song itself is great.)

really love this group and lead singer's voice! never heard of them till now. for something different why dont you try Restless Heart. they had a lot of great ballard top 40 songs. Like "The bluest eyes in Texas" or "I'll still be loving you" or "That rock won't roll" just to name a few.

The keyboards always remind me of the organist they used to have at Hockey Games for some reason 😂

Saw them play at my college in the early 90's. Pretty good band. They didn't get much airplay south of the border it seems. This is probably their best tune.

In terms of rock with minor-to-moderate elements of country, I think The Eagles of the early-to-mid-1970s were the best fusion of that sound and still are. I don't think you have done too many Eagles songs, if at all, but I also know they are notorious reaction channel blockers. Already Gone is a great example of country rock. Take It To The Limit is another favourite of mine by them. When party time guitarist Joe Walsh joined them in the late 1970s they became more rock oriented and put the masterpieces Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane and New Kid In Town. Speaking of Joe Walsh, his solo hit Life's Been Good So Far is a fun song with great music and funny, self-deprecating humour by Joe.
