This is actually pretty common in modern classical music, but not so common outside of that context. As an alternative to using one's hand, some pianists will apply pressure to the strings inside the grand piano using household items to produce different timbres. This is called prepared piano.

Never mind the number of notes. The number of notes goes along with the spirit of the music played. In flamenco music, or in indian classical music, you have a lot of notes, too. It's only energy. The only thing that matters is: do you hear EVERY SINGLE NOTE in your head when you play it? And is your spirit totally involved into music?

What time signature is the introduction in? The whole thing sounds like it takes 32 16th notes, making it possible to express in 4/4, but I really really like the subdivision and would like to know how to split the ostinato correctly into its constituent parts.
@brandonvu54295 жыл бұрын

@aprilcox8715 жыл бұрын
It's 4/4, but the 16th notes are divided into odd groupings
@MirzaCengic5 жыл бұрын
You can count it as groups of 5, 5, 3, and 5, 5, 4, with extra 5 at the end, 5 5 3 5 5 4 5. It's essentially a 5 feel shuffle broken up. But the backbeat that's happening over it (the short accents Tigran does with his left hand in the intro) sound like in different time, but it's just player as quintoles on top, but you accent every fourth one to get that backbeat. Eventually at the end of the song they go to this as a main pulse and it sound like they just changed the tempo. The craziest thing is that Tigran is doing halfway is playing one pulse in his left hand (slow 4/4 beat that feels like 5 in the other tempo), and then soloing over with the right hand playing in the other pulse! I would really like to know what's in his head at this point, this is one of the craziest things I've seen anybody play!

Charles Altura...Called a “…blazingly precise young guitarist,” by the New York Times, Charles Altura has put the international jazz world on notice with his unique blend of effortless lyricism and rich, atmospheric sound. Altura is as comfortable hanging with Chick Corea’s fusion pyrotechnics as he is with Ambrose Akinmusire’s reflective post-bop. While Altura always seems to be on the road-most recently with Terrence Blanchard-we at The Jazz Gallery are proud to present Altura’s debut as a leader in our space this Friday, January 23rd.
