Actually you can have a Danish and an American citizen ship at the same time, it is one of the few nations that Denmark allows dual citizenship with. If you are born in USA and spend at least 6 months in Denmark before your 22nd birthday you can apply to get a dual citizenship. Viggo did that, he lived on Samsø for over half a year when he was young.
