I have a younger brother who was much the same. A baby escape artist disappearing in the middle of the night while the rest of us slept. My parents had to change the locks multiple times. The locks that kept him inside at last were slide bolts near the top that had to be operated together. He kept it up until adolescence. Any time we were out as a family, he’d take off. Turned out he didn’t like loud. So any time things got loud he’d find a place to hide from the noise and lose track of us. It made everyone so mad. These days we could just equip him with some sort of tracker. Fortunately he never got hurt on any of his escapes.
