Well I can see why you'd feel that way, talents in other categories such as singing, dancing, magic, stunts, etc. are easier to notice than comedic talents. When we think of what it means to be a talented singer we imagine someone who has never pursued becoming a singer such as working with a vocal coach, who is extremely good regardless. So what is a talented comedian? My understanding is that there is more than one way to be naturally funny. Earlier comedians like Charlie Chaplin, the Three Stooges, or Laurel and Hardy were gifted in acting. They didn't make sophisticated jokes even when they transitioned from silent film to sound, it was primarily slapstick comedy, and in order to be good at slapstick sketches you'd have to be both capable of acting it out as well as owning it, making it your own. When people think of slapstick comedy they think of Charlie Chaplin, the Three Stooges, and alike. I think crowd work is definitely in that realm of being a good act. You don't need to do anything sophisticated, you just need to be naturally funny and original. People who are good at that type of comedy create moments, imagine it like that one friend in your friend group who isn't predictable and just does something that leaves the rest of the group dying of laughter. You can be a genius and make a very sophisticated joke, and I think both are equals. A well timed witty joke is great, but I've found people remember physical humor better. If someone close to you has slipped in a funny way, chances are you can easily remember it compared to a witty joke you heard 10 years ago.

His first two performances on BGT were very funny. In the final it was all a bit predictable. The Variety Show spot was just a repeat of what we'd seen before and the "My Name Is...." thing didn't work because the audience participators were boring and he messed up the timing... I mean seriously, you had one job, mime someone saying their name. That bit worked on BGT because the judges were obviously rehearsed and part of the performance. This time it suffered from a really obvious lack of preparation, which considering it was all old material is pretty unforgiveable IMO.
