Vigilante (TG16) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of NEC'S 1989 beat 'em up game for the TurboGrafx-16, Vigilante.
The follow-up to Kung Fu/Kung Fu Master/Spartan X, Vigilante takes everything that made the original successful, adds beefed up graphics and sound, weapons, and in general a lot more personality. It's not terribly different, but it gets all the core elements right. It just seems a bit less impressive compared to the massive sprites in China Warrior, but it's also much more fluid because of the smaller characters. It also seems to be a,bit too easy, but that's largely due to the controller's turbo functionality. Do I use it? Yessir! If it wasn't meant to be used, why would it be included?
The girl's name makes me laugh a lot in this one - apparently the guys at Irem liked American pop music!
Unlike the poor Master System version, the Turbo port is equally as excellent - the graphics are big and colorful, the soundtrack sounds awesome on the TG16's chip, and the controls are super responsive. If you're looking for Kung Fu with a more modern set of aesthetics tacked on, this is great. If you want evolved game play, you're better of going for Double Dragon.

Turbo grafix 16 did a remarkable job on designing this game. Very close to arcade perfection. Tgfx was only 8 bits on top of that!!

I love the graphics in this game. Just love the whole look of it. Always have. There is a free PC remake of this that came out over 10 years ago that allows for some customization. Check it out, it's still out there.

Totally, I've always loved the style. It's kinda gritty but not ugly at all. I really liked stage 5 with the Irem game billboards! :) All the backgrounds look great though. Oh for real? Cool, thanks. I'll have to check it out.

Used to play the master system version of this, was actually surprised to see it was released on another console Also I wonder why they changed the woman's name from Maria to madonna (or vise versa) 🤔 Great vid, was a joy to watch my dude

Likely to avoid legal issues with the real Madonna. Interestingly, it wouldn't be the last time Irem would use the name given that it is a name they gave to one of their Candy Cabinets

also, why does the wagon with the girl in it wait at each spot for the boss fight, when it could leave at the start of it and get waaaay ahead? also, if they’re really skinheads, why would they want Madonna in the first place if she’d already been with our king fu hero, who isn’t a skinhead himself? aren’t they about purism of the race or some shit?
