I'm one of those Moto Roader fans. I can't play it like when I was younger, but here is my $0.02. Always use Steering B. Get good with the hopper, you can cut corners with it. The warp when you fall behind can be used to your advantage to avoid some obstacles. Memorize the maps (and especially use the preview before a race) Stay on the inside of curves. When you get really good there's nothing more fun than drifting through a track like it's nothing.

China Warrior I find to be a decent game, yes it's a bit too simple but, I do find it decent. I do play Altered Beast more over China Warrior. Darkwing Duck: The version where you die by the piano for standing around too long, got to love that punishing moment. Ballistix is like an attempt to bring over Crossfire board game into a videogame that falls flat. Other two you mentioned I never played before and they do look bad looking at the gameplay. For one of my favorite TurboGrafx-16 games are Splatter House and Neutopia.

As bad as Motoroader is, I still bought it when it arrived on Wii Virtual Console back in the day and had fun with it! While its flaws cannot be ignored, I do give it points for being a weapons based racer, predating Super Mario Kart by a few years, even having up to 5 player multiplayer compared to Super Mario Kart's 2 player! It wasn't until another 2 years (or a year and a bit in the PAL regions) that Street Racer would come along with up to 4 player multiplayer! I actually beat the first 2 tournaments in Motoroader, but even after trying the 3rd one again upon getting my PC Engine CoreGrafx last year, I just can't do it, no matter what weapons and upgrades I buy.

China Warrior resembles what people making movies and TV shows thought a video game looked like at the time. Large characters with no concern of field of view, poorly designed and artificial animations, a very limited number of elements on the screen. I don't know that it is a great tech demo. Sprite size is interesting, but these large sprites animate so clunkily they're more like cardboard cutouts. Darkwing Duck: You know there's a problem when a game says "Tries Left" It's very easy to create a bland, ugly, Deeply Blue shooter. I'm not big on Top Down or Iso Racers that aren't single screen. I feel like they often require either memorization, using the mini-map instead of looking at the interesting graphics most of the time, or running into things helplessly. Ballistix - There are pretty mediocre reviews on this one, at best some lukewarm love on all platforms, but it's worth nothing that it's the first game for Reflections Interactive who still exist as a part of Ubisoft today working on AAA titles.

Both China Warrior and Moto Roader were included on the TurboGrafx-16 Mini. Why?! It's not like Nintendo put Super Play Action Football on the SNES Classic. I was very surprised when I found out there was Darkwing Duck game on the TG16. By the time that show debuted that system had clearly flopped in America so I would never assume it would get a game based on a Disney show, particularly over the SNES or Genesis. Heck, back at that time period I didn't realize this "Turbo Duo" thing that got the occasional review in Gamepro was the same console that had those Bonk games a few years back. It felt like the TG16 got TV commercials for a few years but I stopped seeing them so I assumed it had been discontinued. I only knew one kid at my school that had one and he never had the CD attachment and had switched to the SNES once it came out.

Too bad the TurboGrafx 16 didn’t have all the other great games in a 16 bit Era that’s what killed it for me.

Riot Zone should be added to the list. As a side scroller beat em up fan, I was disappointed. I had high expectations, because it was marketed as a SUPER CD. The graphics are a complete cheap rip off of Final Fight. For a super CD, I found the sound to be below average w/very little voice overs, and the music mediocre. The lack of a two player, hurt the gameplay. Moreover, there are no weapons to use, and I find the levels repetitive. Not to mention the challenge was almost non existent. I beat the game in one sitting. I own both Final Fight CD and Streets of Rage 2, and they are better in terms of graphics, music, gameplay, replay value, and challenge. If, this was in turbo chip format I would be more forgiving. Riot Zone had so much potential, if only the developers had put more time and effort.

such a shame that many great turbografx-16 games were not released outside of japan. :(

Bad TG-16 games I think are Bravoman, GunBoat and Impossamole (though Impossamole gets a bit of a save with the high score music, which I use as a ringtone on my phone)

One of my biggest regrets in gaming. Was selling this console. Bought it with Christmas money the year it came out. Would love to have it again. But so expensive online 😭

IMO the only redeeming feature for Deep Blue was the "Fin" message instead of "Game Over".

I agree on 4 out of the 5 games mentioned. Especially Ballistix, ugh that game was hot garbage. The one exception would be China Warrior. Yeah it's cumbersome and boring but at least it's playable, which is more than I can say about the other 4 games. Darkwing Duck was disappointing, Moto Roader was a mess, Deep Blue was not enjoyable and Ballistix is...yeah the worst ever. Good video overall.

I always held China Warrior in the same low esteem that I did Keith Courage. Just kinda dull relatively pointless games. Billistix looks like Crossfire turned into a video game. Strip Fighter was awful. Never especially liked JJ and Jeff.

I'm not going to say that China Warrior is a hidden gem or anything, but I do think it is a touch overhated. It is simple, but it can be pretty fun in its simplicity.

TG16 is the most neglected old school powerhouse for the time. The only more neglected console I can think of by the company that released it is the Dreamcast. I owned almost every game for both. Bonk's Adventure was the Sonic for them and they paid no attention to their 2nd and 3rd party developers. Quality was on the back shelf for the SNK developers over quantity.

China Warrior is like a Tiger electronics game in a weird way (not scrolling to see if someone else said this)

I will avoid those like the plague! 🤣 honestly I only have Keith courage and bonk. The rest of my fix come from my mini. For me the TG16 was a novelty so I only wanted a game or two to play anyway.

I'm going to enjoy sneering at the bad games for each console!

Some of these games were included in the TG Mini for some reason. I can play China Warrior and have fun with it, but that top view racing game... ewww... I'd change CW and place that platform game with the dudes in suits instead (forgot its name, it's THAT boring)
