This September will mark the 29th anniversary of the Oslo Accords. Supporters of Oslo at the time claimed that the Oslo helped constituted the first step to getting the peace process started in earnest. But as is all too apparent today, despite the peace the accords planned for was never achieved.
The late Palestinian-American professor at Columbia University, a public intellectual, and a founder of the academic field of postcolonial studies, denounced the accords immediately and took up the challenge to write a forewarning article in the London Review of Books titled The Morning After. He despaired Arafat's terrible decisions (and their likely outcomes) and how he had signed away any gains made in the Palestinian struggle for self-determination with the Oslo Accords, which he called "an instrument of Palestinian surrender, a Palestinian Versailles."
This is a shorter version of my talk with Vijay Prashad: • Vijay Prashad: rebels ... - in the shorter version we focused mainly on Edward Said's life and intellectual legacy. This podcast is essential for students, scholars and general readers who are interested in Middle East Studies, Orientalism and Postcolonial studies, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict etc.
