One out of every sixteen dollars in the global CIA budget, was allocated to the project to topple the Assad government, over the past decade and a half. While crippling economic sanctions tightened the screws further, from the other end. And never allowing the country to re-build, from the chaotic aftermath of the 2011+ conflict. A classic regime change approach, that was also adopted against Saddam Hussein's Iraq. The only country against which it failed spectacularly, was against Russia, since the 2014 Maidan coup. And Russia is eating NATO's lunch, while doing so, and decisively and violently concluding the events triggered by the 2014 Maidan coup, on the Ukrainian battlefield.

Guys, great work and input. You are very knowledgeable on the connections between the communities of the Middle East. Much respect for that. The resistance will have a hard time now but the Middle East is always full of suprises. Let’s see if the cease fire in Lebanon will hold and if Israel-backed joulani will be able to hold of his terror factions to attack minorities. Also Isis in Iraq is still active and waiting for its chance to gain power again. I wonder what the Kurds will be doing. I think they are to much of a gem for US interests and will not loose to much. Hurts to see the Middle East loosing to the imperial influence. Have a good Christmas and thank you for providing this here.

Vijay has a fairly good knowledge of the history and contemporary politics of the region. Yet, his neglect and ignorance of the internal politics of Turkey significantly limits his understanding of the current situation in Syria. Especially the organic relations between YPG and the Kurdish politics in Turkey. YPG was not established to fight Isis but rather to carve out a region for Kurds in the east of Euphrates and thus, contribute to the dismantling of Syria in alliance with the islamic /jihadist forces active in the west. Just a little tip: Kurds are not the arch-enemy of the current government in Turkey. On the contrary, they have a %10 percent vote in Turkey at a time when the ruling parties have lost electoral support considerably. From a socialist perspective, there is little to be sympathetic about YPG as an highly US-controlled entity (presumably) with significant backing of Israel.

*The USA/collective Western plot is always the same.* The people of the Greater Middle East, including the Levant (most of whom are Semites, and the followers of Abrahamic religions) have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. *Because it is easier to divide people based on personal differences, than it is to unite them, based on what they have in common.* Strategically ambiguous outsiders make use of this, for own advantages. In the era of empires, first Rome/Constantinople, then during WW1 the seat of POWER playing these games changed to London/Paris (Sykes-Picot/Balfour Declaration/WW1), then after the 1950's as European colonialism's power decreased, starting around the time a bark by Washington DC in 1956 (Suez Crisis/War) showed who the new boss was, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC (the entire ME was the playground during the Cold War). Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in the ME, in order to _rule over the dissent_ which is classical divide-and-rule. Today, their leaders are ALL tools. Draw lines on the map without asking any of those affected. Exploit and foster endless wars, meddle for constant dissent. *Divide-and-rule connects the dots on the timeline of history.* Who has had (in all historical cases in the ME/Levant) the GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGE of distance from the events resulting out of the own meddling and political activities, being able to reach all the other regions, but could not be reached itself as hegemony, at any given point of a historical timeline? Pax Romana, Rome. Pax Britannica, London. Pax Americana, Washington DC. All they ever wanted was *pax,* because they said so, but who picks up the *pieces of great wealth and the systemic gains* when all the others can be avoided from uniting? *Different Empires. Different era. Same games...* ------------------------------------- The people of the Africa have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. Tribalism makes it easy to divide people, then keep them poor under the "kind foot" of exploitation. In the era of empires, first Rome/Constantinople in North Africa, then during the era of Western imperialism the seat of POWER playing these games changed to the USA/Europe, then after the 1950's as European colonialism's power decreased, Africa was the playground during the Cold War. Once the dividers had reached peak power for themselves, by simply drawing lines on the map without asking any of those affected (Congo Conference/1884) the own systems of gain could siphon off wealth like a giant vacuum cleaner. The intention was simply to avoid unity in Africa, in order to _rule over the dissent_ which is classical divide-and-rule. During the Cold War, Moscow took on the role of arming the resistance to the colonial dividers. Today, all African dissenters fighting against unity, including some of Africa's own greedy corrupt leaders, are ALL tools. Endless wars, constant dissent. _Give the weak mind money, and they will dance for the outside dividers..._ *Divide-and-rule.* Oldest trick in the book... Different people and systems. Different places on the map. Same games. -------------------------------------- The people of the Americas, including the USA, have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. In the beginning stages of era of European Imperialism, first Spain and Portugal entered the Americas, employing the divide-and-rule technique of top-down power on the local systems (Aztecs/Incas), and as European colonial powers' influence decreased during the 19th century, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC. As the own power increased incrementally, the entire world became the playground after around 1900. Today, it is the globalists who employ imperialist tools to play divide-and-rule games on their neighbours. *Forget nukes. The divide-and-control/rule/conquer strategy is the most powerful force on the planet, because it can be employed equally in times of peace to CONTROL, in times of crises to RULE, and in times of war to CONQUER.* Ever since the two-faced snake slithered down that tree of unity (fable), speaking out of both sides of the mouth (lies, deceit), the wisest human beings have fruitlessly warned, and the easily divisable have continuously been warned against divisions within a peaceful status quo. When you bow to the division caused by deception, you will lose the good life..."and much that once was, is lost; for none now live who remember it." Such divisions create GAIN for OUTSIDERS (Eden as a system divided by lies and deceit). Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in the Americas, in order to rule over the dissent which is classical divide-and-rule. Endless wars on anything and everything from "drugs" to "terror" (sic.), constant dissent with everything's a war war war... Insert levers of lies, mistrust. The *two-party-duopoly* is two cheeks of the same golden hind which set out to create favourites: Favouritism, by granting access to the own POWER/WEALTH, to those who volunteer to act as proxies and extensions for the own power projection. The small picture lives of domestic political chaos, of the big picture reality of international insanity. Point the systemic (MSM) finger, everywhere else, by use of the own paid stooges of power by presenting their deep state-orchestrated three-letter-agency astroturfed violence on multiple tiers as being the reactions of "the poor oppressed people, who need our help for freedom and democracy" (sic.). Liars, deceivers, creators of the BLACK LEGEND for the "other side". *In February 1948, George F. Kennan's Policy Planning Staff said: "[W]e have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. ... Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity."* Kennan: A prototype GLOBALIST. And that is what they did to increase their own wealth. Set up people against each other, then siphon off the wealth of entire regions of the planet. *And that is what you are fighting for. That is what the hegemon has always done, pretending to be the "good pax", but playing "good cop/bad cop" with the world, from a position of power.* In the past, the "good cops" were the INTERNATIONALISTS, and the "bad cops" were the IMPERIALISTS. In the present that has morphed into the "good cops" being the GLOBALISTS/NEOLIBS, and the "bad cops" being the NEOCONS. Name-branding and doublespeak for the slumberland plebs, enchanted by their "bread-and-circuses"-existences. America's friends and self-proclaimed default rivals in Eurasia are still being burnt to ensure this disparity continues, with a (quote) "pattern of relationships" which are beneficial to the own rule. Set up European and Eurasian nations (including the Middle East/North Africa) against each other. It is how divide-and-rule is implemented. The imperialist playbook of Great Britain and the USA for more than 100 years. Read Halford Mackinder (Pivot of History, 1904) and Zbigniew Brzezinski (Grand Chessboard, 1997) regarding Eurasia for the template. Read W.T. Stead (Americanization of the World, 1901) for the guideline of political-, cultural- and economic capture. Read Smedley-Butler (War is a Racket) for the modus operandi of imperialism/militarism. Some say Europe is a divine goddess. I say, it is a humble apple tree, from an allegory as old as modern civilizations, because it is easy to divide. *Divide and Rule.* Oldest trick in the book... Four corners of the globe. Different cultures and religions. Same games. THE LINK OF THE WORLD. The entire system they favor in the USA/collective West is based on a pre-set *managed and moderated division,* for the benefit of a very few at the top of the pyramids accompanied by the often-repeated nice-sounding storyline. Create the script of the own heroes. Their entire scripted money-funded history sounds like a Hollywood superhero movie that sounds too good to be true. Guess what? It is. It is what they are NOT telling you, that they try to hide. Who wields the POWER? Who has had the GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGE of being able to reach all the other little buck catchers (tools, and other Roman-era style instruments of POWER), but could not be reached itself, because of a geographical-, technological-, organizational-, military-, strategic-, political advantage at any given point of a historical timeline? Create the default rival/enemy on their own marching routes. It is usually the power most likely to succeed which is determined as the default rival/enemy. Notice how, as soon as a rival starts mass-producing products high up in the value chain of capitalism, and starts vying for markets, and becomes successful, it immediately becomes the systemic rival, and is then geopolitically encircled by the greater empire. It happened around 1900, as Germany started building high-value products, and it happened around 2000, as China started moving away from building cheap toys and labor intensive kitchen appliances... The games start on the home turf. The first victims are their own people in the USA/collective West, locked in the eternal struggle for wealth and personal gain which they have been deceived into thinking is "good greed", but which WILL be exploited by the snakes who deceive them on the domestic tier of the divide-and-rule system of power. Because ..."most of the great problems we face are caused by politicians creating solutions to problems they created in the first place." - Walter E. Williams *War is a great **_divider._** It goes straight through the heads of millions and billions of people from the very top tiers, right down to the individual level. War divides alignments and alliances, goes straight through organizations, divides political parties, tears through families, and finally at the very bottom tier, goes straight through individual hearts and minds as individuals struggle with themselves.*

Always great to hear from VIjay Prashad! You always end up learning a lot more about a region or the peoples and not just the superficial elements of a conflict etc. that most articles and news pieces give. A real historian at heart! I would say that Russia seems to be eyeing a more concrete pivot to Libya. If they can manage that and Libya allows for it, they could in theory build a space out further there for a pretty serious base in Africa with access to the sea and all. This would put them very close to those nations listed in the Sahel that they have aided. It would also create quite the dilemma for the terrorist groups propagated in the region, even more so than currently. And coupled with the Chinese pouring money into Africa and now offering zero tariffs etc. to tens of nations in Africa to promote trade, alongside their overall construction projects in Africa and the expansion of BRICS into more African nations, that would be pretty big for African development and anti-colonialism despite the surface level contradictions. What I think is a bit missing here is the long term strategy of the West, particularly the US. Just like with the Arab Spring, how it was presented by many on the left as grassroots indigenous movements then infiltrated by opportunistic US state funded assets, this is actually not the full picture. The question this entire time for why Israel was operating how it was since October 7th, has (surprisingly) made sense when you have more of an understanding of the politics in that nation and long-term shifting more and more rightward. It is awful but we can see how it benefits the Israeli state govt. and why they are engaging the way they are (as long as the US keeps protecting them). But what has made much LESS sense is the lack of significant Iranian response and then well beyond that, the US position. We justify the Iranian position by positioning the govt. as weak under sanctions and threat of annihilation, suffering from a loss of a foreign minister and extremely influential president, into a leadership that is likely more aligned with the capitalists of the nation. This is doing a lot of the heavy lifting and isn't satisfactory imo, but it at least is a justification that IS valid. Iran can likely fight against Israel but NOT the US, and who would fight off the US to defend Iran if the US truly committed? But with the US there has been the WEAKEST explanations. The explanations are so weak they have resorted to the far right JQs and antisemitic conspiracies to justify US support of Israel in this genocide. The US is literally eroding decades worth of diplomatic labor in the matter of a year plus, in this protracted genocide. For what? To aid Israel in this elongated horrific, slow, terribly executed, genocide that the entire world is watching? At the exact same time China is looking like the golden child to the Third World? It has made LITTLE sense. What? For access to an additional port or to expand Gaza? That's apparently why the US would do this? It has made little sense and relied a lot on focusing on Israel and then overall lasting enmity against the US state to hold this narrative. But with the taking of Syria, that WAS the missing puzzle piece. THAT is true start of what the US gets from this genocidal campaign. From the Israelis. The US wanted to fracture Syria finally and cut off the Iranians, Iraqis, and Russians from there, and then isolate Iran between ISIS-K, the Iranian ally in Iraq (with a US base), and now themselves in Syria. By working with the Turks, they essentially freeze the Azeris, and provide further cover for actions in Syria, meanwhile the Israelis are the true heroes in the US story. The US paint the Israelis (like usual) as the rogue state bastard child that they will defend endlessly but have trouble fully condoning. Meanwhile they work THROUGH the Israelis, to fight Hezbollah, bomb into Tehran, strike in Syria, bomb into Beirut, and aid directly into Syria. The Israeli govt. accepts this role if they get the security blanket of the US, funding, armament, and the ability to wipe out their opposition and secure territory. The US in the background gets to put the spotlight on Israel and Türkiye and present as a side character in the Syria and Lebanon story, however unable to do such for Gaza & Yemen. My evidence of this comes from zooming out wider. During the War in Ukraine/Special Military Operation, in 2022 there were requests from Finland and Sweden to join NATO. Türkiye held these nations up to extract demands from the US. This was treated as another perfidious diplomatic play from Erdogan in a time of great crisis for Europe. If you look back at that period and look at what Türkiye ended up extracting vs what they asked for, it really gives room for a backdoor negotiation. I believe it is very likely, it was at this point that the US strategized more with Türkiye on a position on Syria given an opening and Azerbaijan and Türkiye maintaining their relationship with Israel. The day before the October 7th attack, there was a brutal strike on a Syrian military academy ceremony. It killed many people and would have made more headlines if not for the next day being October 7th. The Syrian govt. said this was coming from the Northwest region of the nation and made reports. They were treated by the Western journals with skepticism. But now, we can see this was a testing. The restart of poking at Syria through targeted attacks to see how they would respond. This then continued into the strikes on their territory, the one particularly hitting the Iranian embassy depot for instance. Then when Israel was sure it could enter Lebanon, without Türkiye coming to that nation's aid and with the cover of the US, they began to bomb into Beirut and fight harder against Hezbollah in the South, alongside their series of assassinations. This campaign continued until they could tie up Hezbollah in their own want to take a pause and reorganize and restructure, with the onslaught of assassinations, long campaign, the pressure from the Lebanese govt. and such. And then as soon as Hezbollah was held up and it was clear Iran was not going to engage to defend Lebanon more, then the terrorists roll in, likely trained in Türkiye, with new equipment, and run a fast campaign and secure the weakened capital in a couple weeks. While the Israelis can perfectly pivot into Syria without worry and everything. For Türkiye this secures a greater foothold into Syria for territorial acquisition, potentially even a military base if the Russians abandon theirs. The furthering of their plot to seemingly eliminate Kurdish groups trying to establish a Kurdistan. For the Israelis, it's the access to the strategic waterways near Syria, more territory in Syria fully secured, the elimination of many Palestinians permanently, the cutting off of supplies to Hezbollah, more US reliance on Israeli partnership, etc. For the US, it essentially is the weakening of Russian influence in this area of the Middle East/West Asia. The destruction of vital supply routes for Iran into Lebanon. More airspace potentially in Syria to take advantage of instead of relying on Jordan, in future. And then what Vijay Pradesh was alluding to, is the isolation of Iran with hopes to successfully topple the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Turks are aiding the Uighurs that want to create an East Turkistan. The Turks worked an agreement with I believe Somalia, to secure the waterway and provide naval support etc. The US literally like a day after China announced the finalization of their Zero tariffs free trade with tens of African nations, the US shipped Biden out to Angola to speak about given billion(s) to Africa in aid, to act as a form of counter to Chinese involvement. There are a lot of moves being made by Western allies very rapidly these last few years in preparation imo for a catastrophe that will lead to a "world" war, that they themselves are manifesting. Just look at South Korea in context to Bangladesh and prior in Pakistan. And then the mysterious deaths of Raisi & Amirabdollahian. The removal of Assad from power. The assassination of Nasrallah. There is an intense attempt to secure territory and topple govts. happening at an incredibly rapid pace in a very particular two regions.

Mr Assad claimed he did make a statement before leaving but it was stopped from being broadcast. With respect Vijay, Saddam may have made statements but he was brutally murdered by the US and he was also a traitor to his own country, comparing his actions with Mr Assad's I find quite strange. Assad stayed under dreadful conditions to protect Syria for 13 years. Hee has faults and made mistakes but lack of patriotism and more importantly care for the people was not among them.

The Assad regime was a brutal dictatorship monarchy where the upper eschelons of the military/police/security were dominated by the same minority Alawite religion as the Assad family. In a deeply religious society where the majority of folks are Sunni Muslims (not Alawites) this system would inevitably crumble.

There are better explanations for the Iranian/Axis of Resistance performance since Oct 7th of 2023 that fit the observable facts. The theory that better explains these events is that, for the Iranians, sanctions relief is a priority, while their commitment to the Palestinian cause is shallow and cosmetic. Consider the following facts that support this theory: 1. The reaction of Hezbollah to the Al Aqsa Flood (a project known only to top Hamas leaders) was weak and tepid. This is a war that Sinwar and close aides began without Iranian permission or coordination. In contrast to the other Palestinian factions, all of whom jumped in full-throttle at the start, Hezbollah dipped its toes in the water. For much of the past year, they limited themselves to symbolic strikes against antenna towers and largely evacuated towns in the north of occupied Palestine. 2. Syria, an Iranian dependency stayed out of it the whole time. Ultimately, it's troops were ordered to stand down and allow the dissolution of the state. 3. Iran's reactions were also limited and theatrical, as your guest correctly noted. 4. The former president of Iran, hardliner Ebrahim Raisi, died in a helicopter crash under mysterious circumstances. This is the first of many assassinations, all of whom were hardline supporters of the Palestinian cause. This president and his team were replaced with a conciliatory, pro-Western team. 5. The assassinations of Nasrallah, Shoukr, Haniyeh, Nilforoushan, Safieddine, and others are all consequential to point #4 6. The "looming war with Iran" will not materialize; instead there will be a new deal and sanctions relief. In conclusion, we've just watched an Iranian purge, the Palestinians were sold down the river (Saint Sinwar, one of the few honorable players here, got frustrated at this betrayal and decided to strap on a tactical vest and fight the enemy himself above ground), and now the Resistance is firmly in the hands of the Palestinians themselves, and these Palestinian fighters are now the ones to watch. At the same time, they've put a lot of pressure on social media, esp Telegram, to keep the videos of these guerilla fighters out of the public sight. I am happy to defend my thesis.
@myla6135
@myla6135 18 күн бұрын
I'm prepared to go with that. The Palestinians have always been considered a nuisance (real shame, they are being sold down the river.... and they know it). I guess at the end of the day the region needs to find a way of accommodating the US/Israel for any sense of normality. Geopolitics .... gah, dontcha just hate it.
@alooshselably2883
@alooshselably2883 18 күн бұрын
You are wrong! For 45 years Iran has paid a huge price for supporting Palestine materially and will continue doing that. Iran is the only state in the world that has stood by Palestine. Name one state which has truely supported Palestine the way Iran has done it.
@AmericanDjango
@AmericanDjango 17 күн бұрын
@@alooshselably2883 I'm not saying that Iran didn't support Palestine. Indeed, it gave more support than any other country. I'm saying that support has limits, and those limits were reached on Oct 7, 2023. Sinwar doesn't take Iran to war, the Supreme Leader does. He is still there, and Raisi, Nasrallah, Safiedine, etc. are not. Now you can try to sell me on the "hyper-confidence of Mossad" theory, rooted deeply in the Zionist worldview of Jewish supremacy, but as someone who grew up with them, I prefer the classical "lets cut a deal" theory, because it matches up with my own experience and observable facts.

V. Beeley the syrian army was couped some days before the turkish&co invasion. The new general/top brass, unknown to Assad, until then working with the russians, ordered to stop fighting. Assad was taken out of the country (some did not want the treason to be that ugly?) without being allowed to address the country (rumours that day in Damascus). that letter in social media (à la bidon?, really?) is weird - as if someone pick a part of a discussion...?

"The report of my death are greatly exaggerated". Vijay should remember this M Twain's quote. Syria was not a platform the weapon transfer to Hezbollah and Palestine for the past few years as it was a decade ago or so. Nasrallah famously said in the 2017's that soon, Hezbollah will be able to export weapons. This means that Iran's strategy was to render the Axis of Resistance independent. Similarly, Putin said that Russia was done with its work in Syria and does not need to be there. These suggest that there is more to it than what it appears. In a sense, Vijay is becoming victim to the same short term defeatism as most leftists in the West. As Ghadi Francis aptly pu tit: where were the Syrian weapons when the Assad government refused to open a new front last year or that he stopped the transfer of weapon to the Resistance? People should stop being nostalgic of an idealised past. Syria was a drain for the Resistance and for Russia in the past years.

There is no genocide of the Israeli against the people of Gaza! This is the usual lie of the islamic extremists. Every country has the right and duty to protect its people and land. The ancestors of the gazans decided almost 77 years ago not to fight and better flee and give the country to the jews. Than they changed their mind and expected other Arab States to fulfill their own duty - what shame!
