I feel kaveri is projected as emotionless person to vijay right after she left the house and in this scene.. She is mentally prepared for not developing any hopes and invest emotional connection with Vijay which is fine and understandable.. however she lost the basic courtesy of acknowledging and reciprocating his efforts and changeover.. As always to cover up her mistake, they justify her actions and now brought out of topic into scene.. it doesn't feel like she intentionally spoke about contract to find his heart like she does previously, however the change in Vijay's mood has brought some sense in her finally and feels like she started to realize something..
