This was the exact video I was looking for. Thanks. Love my helmet/hood.

Thank you for watching. Glad it worked out. It was tough videoing with my phone inside my helmet. :)

I just bought this helmet and from what I have read it’s really good for widening the viewing plane. I work at a mine and it’s hard sometimes to get your head where you can see what you’re welding on. I like being able to see the line and what I am working on so I hope this helps like they say it will .

That was why I picked this one too. I don't work in tight places but with my bifocals and twisting around to see at various angles. I hope it helps.

This was really helpful

Thank you.. I was trying to figure out a way to show others how the various settings worked. I had to put my camera (phone) inside and weld by looking at the monitor on the phone. But it showed up pretty good. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I appreciate it.

Is this helmet any good for stick welding?
@GaryForgingOn7 күн бұрын
Yes, I use it a lot for stick welding. Mine is the older version now. They have created a few newer versions since I bought this one. I usually use a shade 10 for most stick and mig welding. But that was because I used a #10 fixed lens for about 30 years before getting this auto darkening hood. When I TIG weld I was bumping it up to 11. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Is good for eyes if use DIN 9 with 80A?Damage eyes?
@GaryForgingOn Жыл бұрын
I am not sure if using a 9 would damage your eyes or not at a lower amperage. But I am not an expert on what will damage eyes or not. If you can see with a 10 that might be better. I have always used a 10 because that was where I started with the old fixed lenses before auto darkening came out. When I am doing certain kinds of TIG welding I needed to bump it up to 11 because it was too bright.

I got #5, so about DIN9 and in my case with low (20-40A) it's too dark and my lowest setting of auto darkening lens is 5.

I have been using my #5 a bunch recently cutting out coupons to weld on in a TIG class I am taking. Then I turn it up to a 10 and 11 to weld. I also put it on grind mode when I am grinding the edges from the torch cutting. I have been trying a lot of different settings lately. Thanks for watching and the comments.

@@GaryForgingOn yeah I forgot to mention that I wasn't TIG welding, I was stick welding and it's less bright than TIG AFAIK.

In my TIG class I am taking, I bumped up mine to an 11 now. I may even go higher. After 3 hours of welding I start getting a bit of a headache. But it could be that I take off my glasses and use my magnifier in my hood. I cannot get my bifocals to line up in my hood. Or it could be the brightness. i am trying different combinations.

@@GaryForgingOn yea, when I use my glasses under the hood for too long, the pressure eventually makes me feel headache.

Do your eyes feel tired after a long day of welding?
@GaryForgingOn5 жыл бұрын
Not too bad but I don't weld long days much these days. My pain comes more from my bad hip and knees. My body hurts more after a long day. :) But when I did weld full time I didn't notice my eyes getting tired but I got used to it over time and was always going back and forth from welding to measuring and grinding and cutting more steel. One thing I learned about my eyes and strain from doing computer programming is to take breaks and look at things far away throughout the day. It helps from being focused on things up close all day.

what is the difference between IR5, IR3, etc. and Shade 10, 12, 14 etc.? is IR5 the same as shade 14?
@GaryForgingOn3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I missed this post. It got buried... For welding you need 9 thru 13. I always used a 10 for welding. A 5 or so is just dark sunglasses that are good for cutting torch work. Do not weld with anything below 9. The IR5 is just a 5 lens as far as I know. It is more like dark sunglasses. Some of my TIG welding I bumped my shade up to 11. I have never even tried a 9 before. I hope this helps some. Again, I apologize for being late in this reply. Gary

I have a question. Shade range switch- Switch to the left for shade 6-9 only And switch to the right to use shade 9-13 only ?? I never used Lincoln helmets I did not realize they had a switch until after I unboxed the helmet
@GaryForgingOn3 жыл бұрын
@@sloppyjonuts9162 Yes. The round dial for the setting works for both ranges. Mine is about 3 years old now so I am assuming they still work the same. WIth mine, I switch the button to the left for 5-8 when using cutting torches and things like that. Then I switch it to the right for 9 - 13 for welding. If you switch to the lower range just remember to go back before you start welding. I hope that answers your question. If not just let me know. Thanks for watching Gary
