Join me on an exhilarating journey back in time as we delve into the realm of Viking craftsmanship. In this video, we explore the fascinating world of Viking-age archery and bring to life the construction of an authentic arrow quiver based on historical findings from Haithabu, a renowned Viking trading settlement.
Drawing inspiration from archaeological discoveries and meticulous research, I will take you step-by-step through the intricate process of creating a Viking-style arrow quiver from scratch using reconstructions of Viking age tools. With a focus on Haithabu's findings, I explore the intricate patterns and decoration discovered on the Viking arrow quiver fragments.
Whether you're an enthusiast of Viking history, a lover of ancient craftsmanship, or simply intrigued by the art of traditional leatherwork, this video is a captivating exploration of the Viking Age arrow quiver.

😊Just found your channel. Love it. I do archery and leatherwork. I first made the other Haithabu pattern for a medieval arts and science display. I then decided to try it out. UNBELIEVABLE! It works as an ambidextrous side quiver, back quiver and even a baldric mounted quiver. I made the quiver you are making and wear it as a back quiver. It has none of the disadvantages of the normal back quivers you see. MY arrows sit just to the side of my neck and don’t get in the way when I walk through the woods. Neither do I put anyone’s eye out if I turn suddenly, I can sit in a backed chair or wear it over a backpack. If I bend over it doesn’t spill arrows. A lot of the back quiver people I shoot with have modified their quivers to match mine. After seeing the awesome way it performs.

Hello Peter. Great to hear from you and its awesome that you made on yourself and actually have experience with its use. I cant wait to try it out my self. I have made a few over the last 6 months and sold them to good friends and then decieded to make one for my self. I have only been getting good feedback on the other one as well. Its a good proof of the old saying: if it aint broken - dont fix it. Some designs are just timeless. Thank you for taking the time to give me this feedback and information. I highly appreciate it. All the best.

Unbelievable coincidence - Just last week I started working on my quiver. It is interesting to see the different interpretation of the findings. But our work process is essentially the same.

Fantastic stuff as always my friend! It's always a treat to watch you work, to see your creative process, and always in such lovely and atmospheric locations! I'm not familiar with these remains/artifacts, so I'm very keen to see Part B as the quiver comes together. I've been told that the Vikings used bow and arrows for hunting, but not really in battle, is that your understanding? Or have I been misinformed? Keep up the great work, you're an inspiration!

thank you for the comment Ingvar - and for the compliments on the video. Im working on part B - so it wont be long:) I am not certain about the bow in hunting vs. war. I can try and check up on it and maybe include it in part B. But to have a tool that can shoot a deadly point far away and kill an animal for food - it would seem strange not to use that advantage for battle. Im sure there is something to be learned from studying types of arrowheads found. I will look into it:)

@@RAMUNI-Viking Oh I completely agree with you, it would makes sense to me too. If you can shoot an arrow at an animal, it wouldn't take much imagination to realise that you could shoot an arrow at a human being too. Perhaps they actually meant something more along the lines of "Vikings didn't use bows in raids", I honestly don't know. 😅
