My wife passed away 4 years ago. Last fall to help keep my mind off of it I built a shanty shack out of saplings and covered it with tarps. It's 8x10 and so far held up to the ohio winters nicely

Well, I can honestly say that you have inspired me. I started out watching your pallet cabin build and then moved on to your super bushcraft camp. I was impressed with how your took logs that normally would have been cast away for nothing more than firewood and actually built something with them! Now, I'm not really into serious bush crafting, I'm more into building my homestead. I have been clearing my pastures on my new property of a lot of young trees. They are beyond saplings, yet the trunks are straight and tall. I hated to just toss them into a brush pile to be burned. So I have been saving them. Today, I took your inspiration and put those small tree trunks to use. It' wasn't much, just a temporary barrier to keep the horses out of an area that I seeded. But I think it will do the job and is only the beginning of what I can do with my FREE wood! THANK YOU for the inspiration! (And yes, there will be a video soon about it.)

This is a cool place to camp, hold outdoors classes and anything else you'd like. Some suggestions, trim the bark down off the end of your forked window prop, that way it won't swell and will always go in the hole. Also, when you cook something like leg of lamb or venison trim that "silvery" looking layer of membrane off before you cook it. I have found that it will make the meat more tender and it comes off fairly easy with a sharp knife. Next time try mixing some "crasins" ( dried cranberries) and orange zest into your bread as well as the nuts. I know it;s not "Viking" correct but it sure is good! Keep up the good work Mike and Dustin! Love watching the videos!

The Anglo-Saxon and Viking era is my major to be honest. You know I have really enjoyed this project from the beginning to finish. You have made the odd mistake but they are so minor they have not taken anything from the project you set out to do. I take my hat off to you all. I don't know if you are doing the Church Farm meet in July but if you do come find us. I am taking 5 gallons of my own home brew apple and pear flavour mead, now that brew I am tending is 20% so bring those horns if you are going. Victory or Valholl lads :-)

By providing a historically accurate living history project which is not only hands on but a hub for those that wish to have a hub for the heathen and pagan faiths which are on the rise in the UK. I am not overly worried about making loads of money, some would be nice, but as an Odinist Heathen myself I consider it a duty to spend a small fortune to make sure we have a place once my current obligations are no longer needed. The problem with the heathen orientated hofs we have today is that they tend to be 'look but don't touch' What me, my family and our hearth are doing is to build a place that is welcoming to any which wish to escape the mundane and find a bit of bygone head mending. There will be money enough if one knows how feasts were held, when and to whom they would be a welcome. I hope that explains your question.

What an amazing project! You guys are very creative and even the scraps have a use. I love how you hammer with a small log. The long fire pit is my favorite - especially the way Dustin cooked the lamb. You may not be professionals, but you behave better than most professional shows I've watched. You get to work straight away, bypassing all of the idle chit chat so common among the pros. When you do talk, you explain what you've been doing with as few words as possible, yet you're very thorough at the same time. You make very good use of your time and you have great teamwork as well. And Dustin may not be trained as a cook, but from what I've seen in these videos, he could shame some pro chefs because, honestly, there is no better tasting meal than the one home-cooked over an open fire. The only thing I would personally do different, is to build one like this that I could live in permanently. But then, that's just me. Lol. Thanks for sharing this fantastic build with us. Now I'm looking forward to your other builds. :) Best wishes to the four of you.
