The Danish King has invaded Northvegr to attempt to take land that was recently conquered by Harald. Harald musters his men near the capital and marches out to meet the King of the Danes even though he is outnumbered 3 to 1.

+Ali Amarneh If I'm correct, it's in the formation tab. Press F4 during combat and you'll find the Shield Wall.

+Ali Amarneh There are a lot of formation options. I think F1-5 are all the different things you can do in combat Edit: I know most are simple things like stand ground, etc. Play around with the different keys and look in settings to see what you can do :)

Don´t use formations, just press F2-F4 twice (tighten formation) you´ll get a much better shieldwall

Here's a tip: If you push backspace, you see the fighting interface and can put arrows on the map to move your infantry groups. Now you don't have to march into the enemy alone so your troops'll follow you :) Though leading your men into battle gives 1000% manliness boost tho.

Also if you hold the hold position button then release your troops move where your looking and if you place them near the enemy they will automaticly attack

Cody Archer Thanks. Anyway, it isn't such a big problem, I think. Do you know about Ealdorman Wulfhere's tactical advice? He says that with key 'b' and 'u' you can shout something that can frighten the enemies or improve your party's morale. I tried, but it didn't work. And I haven't found anything related in the controls panel. Any suggestions?

probably a certain trait needed for instance somehow i got the strong trait instead of the berserk one and now if i hold t all my people pound their shields to make a loud noise (and the trait is passive it makes all equipment in your army better) maybe you need a different trait i know the AI can do war shouts

I started playing this game a few days ago and im simply just ADDICTED. But i still have trouble controlling my army in those huge fight. Anyway what a great game ! can be very complex and hard specialy to recruit soldier but you can make it easier by changing the options if you want. best 15$ invested of my life.

I only wish they added diplomacy mod into this dlc. If i remember correctly brytenwalda had diplomacy mod, i have no idea why they didn't add it, it is really annoying recruiting from villages when you have cities and thousands of soldiers..

Either that or balance, you're more or less forced to recruit other lords if you want a decent army when you can't just recruit 50 soldiers doing nothing, so this makes it more difficult to become a massive elite warband that can conquer any army without breaking a sweat.

I was fighting the King of Denmark, at the time when I made this vid there was a bug that gave them the wrong faction colors and shield icons. This was fixed in the last patch though.

I was the king of my own faction and at war with the kingdom of Denmark for some time. This one guy just kept taking Wistcun or something like that so I confronted him and forced his hand to battle, Turns out that is was the son of Ragnar, Sigurd Ragnarsson. I wasn’t too worried cuz I know how these battles usually go. We start in our formations and the mad lad orders his troops to charge in a wedge formation straight at my shield wall and completely breaks thru splitting my army in half! The only battle I’ve ever lost and didn’t exit without saving cuz it was too damn sick

@@biddyboo8 mate I’m back here after all these years to say that I’v played this game A LOT. It’s awesome. I’m starting another campaign but this time with hard difficulty and without any cheats. It’s incredible, and I’m still using the same laptop with a Geforce 740m (yours was better than mine). One day I hope to play this game with max graphical settings and the highest possible troop capacity on the battlefield!! I used to have +700 men on the battlefield, but it was supper laggy and I had to use minimum settings. Hope youre fine bro ;)

Strange, they paid enough attention to detail to make the arrows and javelins stick in the shields, and the shields themselves are also highly detailed, but for some odd reason, the chainmail pattern has been turned around 90 degrees...

Benjamin Cisco I struggled with large battles too, but the biggest difference I noticed was when I turned v sync off. I can have battle sizes of 800 with slight lag, but no crashes.

Are there any military historians viewing this? I thought a shield wall formation should have interlocked shields in the defending infantry? Their troops would defend by cutting and stabbing above and below their shields? It would become ineffective otherwise. What do you think?

I use the Viking Conquest slider in the menu that allows bigger battles.
