The Wood Quay site turned out to be the most significant archeological site from the Viking age outside of Scandinavia, yet the whole site was bulldozed. Footage credits RTE Dublin City Council 3D Animation credits Pablo Aparicio

If the colosseum was in Dublin, DCC would allow a shopping centre and luxury flats to be built inside it.

Very dissapointed how goverment handled that. Its such a shame. Heritage thrashed down the drain. Really glad you covered this to show appreciation to it, when they couldnt/wouldnt!

Hi My Viking Brother, I’m John and I am a Dubliner, I was 10-13 years old at the time and I never felt so strongly about what was happening to a National Moments. Not many cities stumble across the roots of the city I’m so mad at what was deleted from Viking history If they had stilted the building s up and then put a live Dig in temperature and moisture glass building and watch it bring recoded and maybe other Students for Viking places to learn about it There was only 1-3 lairs dug and recorded before the end And most ironic of all Is the Building is for the office’s of the Dublin City Council Should have been there to save it Heritage Sadly Money talks and Bull💩 walks Greedy Back Hand Large brown envelope s Ok Thanks 🙏 🇮🇪

Heartbreaking stuff about the bulldozing and disregard for history in favor of money.

Thanks Christopher very informative video. It's hard to imagine that some people put money ahead of knowledge. Then again if you went back to the Viking age I doubt the Viking people cared much about who built houses on the land a thousand years before they set up shop. Not much changes about human nature.

It's a tragic story. Glad we found all we did, but a lot was lost in the process.

Great video man! I'm from Dublin, and work as a tour guide. Am very proud of our Viking past and you speak with such enthusiasm. Let me know when you're coming back over here, can grab a beer! Ross

My father worked on Wood Quay and he said they found a skeleton while digging a foundation, he claims the skeleton was over 7ft long but that they were told to say nothing because it would stop work and the skeleton was left in the foundation which was filled in with concrete.

The destruction of the Wood Quay Viking Settlement site was a wonton and criminal act of disgusting proportions by Dublin Corporation - who, as the Dublin Civic Authority, should have been there to PROTECT this city`s heritage, NOT DESTROY it. I was a 20-year old protestor at that rally in 1978. I was there, and my young peers were very emotional and upset at the later betrayal the people of Dublin suffered. I will never forgive either Dublin Corporation or the Irish State for this barbaric act.
