Great Video I have just finished my Seax sheath and thanks to the trick you showed in the video I was able to add the brass plating to my sheath. Instead of the small nails you used I used some 3/32 brass pinstock and they worked very well. I really like the system that attaches to the belt and will be using that on more of my Scabbards .

Awesome, I like the idea of using 3/32 pin stock. Sounds like that might have worked better than the pins.

@@PhilBaumhardt I didn't have the pins and that was the smallest pin stock I had for my knives and it worked out well. I just finished up a Seax knife and was looking at ideals for the sheath when I came across your video. I had put a brass finger guard on the knife so I went with the brass for the fittings and then I used the same 3/32 pin stock to make my rings out of as I did not have the copper wire you twisted. again thanks for the video as it was very informative. I don't think I can post a photo here but I can let you know where I post it so you can see what you inspired.

An old Navajo trick when cutting thin wood/metals is to sandwich it between two thicker pieces for stability, maybe 3-5mm bits for sheet tin/copper;-p...

@@PhilBaumhardt glad to help, the knowledge and tricks our forefathers all knew are sadly on the ebb these days, got to share where we can :-)

Wonderfully useful. I made my first ever sheath (coincidentally for a seax too) yesterday. It's useful to see the copper plate designs, so I might be able to do some modifications to my own work to embellish it more.

Great video! Very informative and useful! Just a thought. Seeing as you peen the fitting on. For simplicity, and somewhat esthetic purposes. Shouldnt you make the rings seperate, and then peen them on with the fitting? Im sure that would help making the rings better looking.

the copper u used looked like 20 gauge copper. I wasn't going to use copper but u just sold me on it. I've got two gladius (one an orkish replica to actual size, weight and dimensions) and a slightly shorter one, that's a lot lighter. The lighter one, has leather squares for the handle, that I'll file down. Just gotta find the right pommel material.

Nice video, but if you want some advice, historical knives were always completely polished, scale was never left on the knives. We leave scale nowadays because it has become fashionable, but back then it wasn't a look that people wanted.
