In part 2 from my visit to Trelleborg, you will see a reconstruction of one of the longhouses. The last clip in this video shows buildings and activities that have been made in connection with the museum built at the Viking castle Trelleborg.
Trelleborg is a Viking castle located on Zealand near Hejninge, and it is dendrochronologically dated to the year 980. Trelleborg is provided with a fort where 135 burial sites have been found. None of the other castles from the Viking Age have traces of a fort. Trelleborg contains 16 longhouses, 4 in each part of the castle. Furthermore, there are traces of 15 longhouses, which were built outside the ramparts, but still oriented in the direction of the castle center. The Trelleborg site as such has never been forgotten, and the defense facility is clearly visible on maps from the 17th century onwards. But in 1933, a local motorcycle club wanted to make a motocross track on the ramparts, and this gave rise to a closer examination of the terrain. The facility was thus excavated archaeologically in the period 1934-1942. The excavation led to the identification of a circular castle in Denmark for the first time.
