another thought that came to mind about the "single grain" that turned into a "hundred fields" is how a single act of inspiring a child or person can grow exponentially into inspiring a whole generation as each of those inspires someone else. be the change you want to see in the world. teach your children, show your friends, inspire your neighbors. help someone. tell them to pay it forward. water the fields of respect, understanding, compassion and kindness, and watch them blossom :)

This is actually a song about death and mortality, and how to face it: get comfortable with the fact that you're returning to the earth (there is no heaven) and will cease, and live the life you have to the fullest of your ability: water the fields, inspire a child, go on a carousal of dare (who dares not, adventures not) instead of herding tame flocks and leading a life of silent misery. The graves in the video (there are five) are the graves of the band members, and Troy is walking among them. The hand clapping reminded me of a religious service, somehow. I have started to call this song "atheist mass".

First you stumbled a little, but then you got it just about right 😅. It's the "Cycle of Life" we are talking here. Some fans don't like this song, because it's not "metal" and Floor is not belting her lungs out there. But i like this Celtic anthem a lot. Troy's voice is perfect to this kind of folksy material. Their harmonies are first class and there's a wonderful intrumental part. And there's also a clear "Jethro Tull vibe" lurking. Well done, fellow Viking. ⛄👍

Not sure I've ever seen anybody get the gist of this song as quickly as you did. Took me several listens to really appreciate what he was saying here, and you got it so quickly. XD This song was quite controversial when it first dropped, lot of people didn't get it and didn't think it was very "nightwish". Lot of people STILL don't get it and think it's a really weak offering from Tuomas, but the more I listen to it the more I love this piece. It really really grows on you the more you listen to it, and I think it's going to be the "We Were Here" moment of their live concerts as everybody ends up singing along with the chorus.

Oh, it wasn't that quick. I had read the lyrics before and tried to figure them out but only when I saw the video that went with it and the way it was approached did I get it. At least... what I think it means.

I love this one cause is like a breath of fresh air, we get to listen to Troy's soft, gorgeous voice that usually its shut down by Floor and Marko, who have more power. I felt the same in the beginning, the song is not the NW sound we are used to but in my opinion is a beautiful contrast to the rest of the album, plus I adore this folk-celtic vibe, later on the melody changes and that's when the ol good NW sound kicks in, and is just *chef kiss*

JOIN THE HARVEST OF HUNDRED FIEEEEELDS!! Hell yeah. And indeed a celebration of life and not to fear death, as it is a part of life and matter doesn't stop existing. There are atoms that find new 'adventures' and other parts of our matter becomes energy to 'water the fields' so to speak. Who needs stories about heaven when in reality we live on forever? At least, that's how I see it. And way more child friendly than a heaven and hell concept.

Troy is going to be a very busy man on this song! I heard the uilleann pipes, low whistle, tin whistle, and possibly even the bouzouki in this song, plus singing lead. If Marko were still there, I could see him playing the guitar parts on the Warwick/Framus Beast, if not, it definitely is the bouzouki. However, what makes this song phenomenal is the use of the 4-part harmony, especially in the first chorus. You hear Troy in the lead, Marko is a 3rd above him, Floor either a 6th above Troy or a 5th above Marko.. but you also have a voice an octave below Troy. Of all the songs, this is the one I'm most eager to see how they pull off live. They can get the vocals on to their backing track easily, but I'd love to see Troy handle all of his instruments used on this song live.

This song could have been one from Auri - but it does fit the “theme” of “Human:||: Nature” and the “theme”’that runs through many NW songs & albums - Tuomas the poet wanting us to think & feel more from life, respect Nature - and be united through music.

"Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability..." Nope, you didn't butcher that word. But yes, you caught the meaning perfectly in the end. Live life to the fullest, don't sweat that you're going to die. We all do. "Dance a jig at the funeral" as it were. Arrive alive.

Harvest is a YOLO song, appreciate the life we have been given. My harvest will come, I will die, but instead of lamenting over it, appreciate what I have seen and done. The only certainty death and taxes. Understanding and dealing with your own mortality is quite liberating if you put it in perspective, we won the lottery of life remember. We stirred into existence when most people never will. Great as always Viking.

Loved your confused look when troy started singing xD You expected Floor didn;t ya? :P It was cute to watch^^ Yes, this is Troy as main vocalist. Floor and Marko are in the background in some parts of the song, but he's the frontman in this one :3 What Harvest is about is a little harder for me to interpret too. I think it's about the circle of life so to speak :) To the older generation? Maybe about what our generation and those after us need to do to save our planet, living a bit different due to our resources being exploited too quick? Global warming? This song makes me somewhat emotional and I do not know why but it happens each time :3 Beautiful comment about it being true healing :3

I believe the scithe is not just the instrument of death, but the instrument of harvest. The death figure harvests souls with it, humans harvests crops with it. Its about the cycle of life and death, you returns to earth, while a child is born under the sun. It reminds me of the text of R.D. in the end of the Greatest Show on Earth. We are going to die, and that's make us the lucky ones.

I really like the Celtic Folk Metal sound this has. The lyrics are good and can be interpreted many ways. Riddle like. By the way, my grown son is colorblind like you also. It runs in my mother’s family. It’s a recessive gene carried by the daughters and actively present in their sons. Did you know? Some things take the long way round, multigenerational cycles of life to bring to fruition.

Just today, Tuomas and Kai were on the morning show on YLE (the equivalent of BBC in Finland) to talk about the upcoming virtual gig, how Marko leaving was a black moment (but they decided to go on because they felt they had so much music still left in them) and...other stuff. I'll leave a link, but of course you'd need a VPN connection and a passable grasp of Finnish to get much out of this: areena.yle.fi/1-50836952 I'll just say that Tuomas was wearing a woollen hat indoors, which is a bit of a faux-pas for me. But maybe the studio was chilly.

It's mis-spelled Mr. Viking, it's quaternary, there's an R too many.- before the T. The song grows on you and we are the harvest, the instrumental part is your jig through life I believe. To quote Dawkins: "We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred"

Who has time to breakdown his lyrics. Nightwish grooves man, and if i ever cant understand what words mean its anybodies guess. Fans always have misconceptions of what the band does behind the scenes or what the songs mean. I did it with Genesis for years. Hell ive thought 10 different reasons why Marco left? Again its anybodis guess. Course Tuomas as brilliant as he is, the lyrics could have 2 different directions the song could mean. Its all fun isnt it? Where would any of our lives be without music.
