I think you guys are misunderstanding Ragnar. It wasn't simply about getting to have sex with another women and now whoops she's pregnant, the seer prophesied Ragnar would have many sons and he wants those sons. He's sought of like Tywin Lannister where he seems dedicated to legacy more than anything, including his own happiness. He would be happy with Lagertha but he wouldn't have what he truely craves which is more sons.

True, but even knowing that, I don't think it would've changed their opinion about him. It didn't for me anyway (though understanding the tradition). As most viewers interpret the situation from the modern perspective of his now former family, Lagertha and Björn, who obviously feel betrayed, despite being more than aware of Ragnar's ambition of having 'worthy' offspring (Lagertha at least). To them his actions weren't a valid excuse, especially not after him wanting to exploit the situation further by having two wives. It's basically the question of thinking that following your own dreams at the cost of others, is worth it or not. I say no.

😂 You girls got LOUD this episode. It was hilarious! Very fun reaction to watch. I do believe this has probably been the most impassioned Ragnar roasting I've seen yet. lol Funny thing is you'll likely love him again very soon. Many of us were furious at him but very quick to forgive. This show has a way of making you swing to extremes that way regarding certain key characters. You love them one moment, hate them the next, then love them even more. You've already gotten a taste of it with Rollo and now Ragnar. Prepare for much more of that to come. Ragnar at this point of the show is strongly religious and a follower of the gods the seer (✋ licking Guy) told him he was supposed to have many sons who would all be great and he is devoted to leaving a great legacy for his family and Vikings in general his main Wife Lagatha can't have anymore children or it's strongly implied that so when he finds out his mistake with that woman turned into a pregnancy he is convinced that the God's are going to give him his destined sons through her so that's why he tried to keep his true love And his mistress at the same time because he clearly has no feelings for the other woman.. Ragnar is a deep thinker and doesn't factor his own feelings into the equation of what he thinks is right or what must be done he let Rollo live because he knows it's within his nature to wander off if he isn't kept in check but he also Knows Rollo Is the definition of a Viking and therefore a great Asset.. All this will be shown more thoroughly throughout the shows seasons

I believe you all are giving yourself a huge emotional disservice by looking at the show through a modern lens and not opening up to the perspective of the viking culture portrayed in the show. Lagatha may have stayed with Ragnar if her child survived, perhaps Ragnar wouldn't have been tempted either. More pronounced in history is the contributions each gender brings to the relationship, children and the resources for the children. Ragnar has obtained status and the ability to accrue resources, note the boxes, horse and cart. Alslag once pregnant, represents a path to having future children, I suspect that if it weren't for her position and the integration had been slower to assure Lagatha of her invaluable position things may have been less turbulent. However, the way it was done, quickly due to the resources and renown Alslag had, made Lagatha feel like the second fiddle in her own home and not valued. This is of course compounded with the recent miscarriage and loss of their daughter. Naturally, such a scenario would be inexcusable today, but as women, I can curious whether you think that if the circumstances were changed and the adjustments made above were taken, in this historical setting, do you think that Lagatha and Alslag could have abided one another?? Because there would also be resentment the other way, because Ragnar would still love Lagatha more and spend time in thought with her over Alslag, Alslag could feel dejected despite being able to produce heirs and have some wealth.

Aside from Ragnar's questionable family choices (lol), I do admit I find it very intruiging and refreshing to have such a grey character be our main protagonist. With both likeable and "less likeable" characteristics. It's a bold writing choice to have viewers feel conflicted about your show's lead behaviour so quick after his initial introduction, and so early in the overall series. You don't see that too often in my experience. Objectively trying to reflect on it from a story standpoint, it could make for a very multidimensional character arc. Like when Ragnar was reminiscing about his daughter (which I considered a sweet moment) even though I knew everything else he did wrong in my opinion.

Imon_Snow in Viking culture, having multiple sons is a priority as most will be culled in battles. Lagertha was unable to have multiple sons so he had to outsource them in a sense. I mean I don't agree with him bringing her to Kattegat but I don't think it's too wild that he did what he did

All female and all male reactions together about the same show are rare. ps: yours was funny as hell. just a suggesztion: at the end of every season maybe read something about the vikings in that time frame. personally i think you would enjoy the show even more knowing actual history.
