joleen I LOVE him. He got the most of Ragnar's "family man" aspect... *Extreme season 5a spoiler, not to be read by those who haven't got to 5x10. Cheers* I loved him until he took that strange course of action in 5b... He left Ivar, ok. He had to ally with Lagertha because he had no other option at the time, true. But he became too comfortable with his position. He could never grow out of it, like his wife tried to convince him. He is still a son who was dedicated to avenge his mother... But seems that comfort changed his sense of honor and self respect. I don't think that Ivar would've objected him, if he would've joined him to fight against Lagertha. And he is a Ragnarsson, but by the looks of it, he wouldn't do the extreme thing, in order to be great... I think that he had lots of potential. But hopeful, in 5b he will be his old, more fascinating self, once again.

If it comes down to ranking the sons of Ragnar, Bjorn is first, followed by Ivar, then Ubbe. Honestly, the only reason I put Ivar above Ubbe is because of his ruthless intelligence. I otherwise fucking hate the dude. Ubbe isn't exactly special, but he's less of a bad guy than Ivar, and just more of an all around dude. He's competent and would be a fair second to Bjorn. Sigurd can jump in a Swedish lake during winter.

That "call to prayer" wasn't actually music its verses from the Quran that muslims recite while they're praying. You don't necessarily have to say them out loud if you're praying alone but in a mosque or when praying as a group there is always the priest or "imam" (someone who leads the prayers) who says those verses out loud so everyone else can follow and pray in unison. So what Floki was hearing wasn't a soundtrack but what muslims have to recite as part of their prayers :) great video as always guys!

Ubbe is probably my favourite of the sons of Ragnar, beside Bjorn of course. He's got that morally right, humble farmer side of his father and lacks ambition compared to some of his brothers.

"morally right" what's morally right about fighting with Christians, the people who murdered his father, and Lagertha, the person who captured him then killed and usurped his mother, against his own brothers, all because he can't handle the fact warriors don't want to farm, and that the people whose people they're killing and land they're invading don't want to make peace, also at least Ragnar had sense to hold hostages to ensure his safety, and then he goes off with Hvitserk secretly behind Ivar's back right after giving Ivar shit for not consulting him, then when he realises the army is with Ivar he decides to leave with his forces, he gets to Kattegat and he says "Ivar tore us apart" firstly, it's very obvious Ivar didn't intend on killing Sigurd, secoundly, it was Ubbe who wanted to take Hvitserk and leave Ivar in England alone, but just because it didn't go his way, suddenly Ivar tore them apart, then he declares war on Ivar and Hvitserk (before Hvitserk and Ivar declared war on him) then a few episode later he's telling Hvitserk "stay, your my little brother" when a few episodes ago you called him your "enemy" he just loves trying to make peace with enemies doesn't he? "humble farmer" has he ever set foot on a farm? any evidence? didn't think so. "lacks ambition" didn't you see his eyes twinkle when Margrethe was talking all that shit about how he's a better ruler than Bjorn, even though he has 0 experience compared to Bjorn.

One thing I need to get straight, the prophecy was not true. The seer told Ragnar “you’ll die on the day the blind man sees you”. Yes the blind man saw Ragnar but ragnars execution was the day after so the prophecy had been wrong. That’s why Ragnar had that little scene with the seer where he said he guided his own fate. If you had the extended version, Ragnar spoke about how the seers prophecies are dangerous. He spoke about how if Lagertha never heard about not having another child, she would have protected the one she had with Kalf instead of putting the baby in danger hence why the seer said “maybe I was wrong”. Just to help you guys understand that. Ragnar fully lost belief in the gods and and The seers prophecy for him was actually incorrect.

@@monasamuel3673 To be fair, that is just not how it works/worked. Lothbrok was an added name, like Ironside to Bjørn, the Boneless to Ivar, Snake in the Eye to Sigurd, Finehair to Harald and so on. Ragnar Lothbrok was a son of another Sigurd, hence Ragnars name is Ragnar 'Lothbrok' Sigurdsson. Bjørn is Bjørn 'Ironside' Ragnarsson, Ivar is Ivar 'the Boneless' Ragnarsson and so on. Girls would instead of 'son' at the end have 'dóttir' (daughter), hence Gyda would be Gyda Ragnarsdóttir. Lagertha would also not be Lagertha Lothbrok like it says on the Vikings Fandom page. She would be the 'döttir' of her father and that would also carry over when married. I believe this is still the way the Icelandic naming system works.

I love this episode. But they missed up Bjorn's journey in the medatranian sea especially in season 5. They had the chance to make a great storyline out of it in season 5 instead of what we got with Ziyadat Allah which literally lasted for like two episodes and went nowhere. In history, Bjorn had a naval battle against a huge army commanded by Prince Abd ar-Rahman II and it lasted for 42 days. Bjorn had around 52 ships and most of them got destroyed by catapults. They could've done this in season 5 and it would've been dope and way more interesting.

Lagertha may be a seasoned warrior, but it's unrealistic she has been beating men twice her size in straight up mele combat all these years. Not near enough upper body strength, no matter how in shape she is.

A guy with no training, sure. But a seasoned Viking warrior, with a ton more upper body strength ( men are physically stronger just a fact), not a chance, especially not over a number of years.

hey Shannon! Thanks for ringing in. Maddie and I are curious as to why you are putting so much emphasis on physical strength. So many physical battle are won with the mind and tactical abilities. I have not personally been in a lot of battles with large weapons, so it would be hard for me to comment, however, I would ask where you believe her lack of strength means she would be beaten? Unless she was grappled, and even then, physical strength is not the most important. Thank you for watching we were just curious. :)

Lagertha is smart, her leadership abilities come from her intelligence, but the fact is she is not as physically fit as a male warrior with the same training. In the midst of battle after all of these years she would have lost to a warrior of superior strength. Like Rhonda Rousey, super talented, but she would get destroyed fighting men. Just like Lagertha would loose to someone like Bjorn or Rollo. Mind and tactical abilites help with planning a battle, but in the midst of one, sword to sword, shield to shield, it comes down to muscle. Realistically her intelligence and mind for tactis and overall leadership ability would be far more important than her sword arm. Men and women are just different in that regard, but her mind, she is every bit a man's equal, and more than equal at times.

yea the real Lagertha may have been a tough cookie but not the one on this show, she physically cannot cope. any of Ragnar's kids would beat her and Ivar was equal to his brothers

I like Ubbe the most, in real life Ubbe's mother was most likely Frisian, Ubbe is a very Frisian sounding name, and so Ubbe was most likely Frisian, like me💪🏻 There are sources describing Ubbe as Dux of Frisians at one time as well so yeah, Ubbe is my favourite, in both this show and in real life.

I don't think Floki stopped the killing of the Muslims because he was intrigued or any noble reason. I think he just had a feeling that they would WELCOME death while they prayed in there. Which.. is true. To Muslims, dying while praying is like insta-guaranteed heaven. It's not surprising he would have that feeling because like Muslims, Vikings welcome death as well.. in battle. It was just that mutuality he recognized and I think he didn't want that for them.

Oh and I would pay money to see Travis Fimmel watch that skit/ some of your reactions to the show. Such good stuff lol! :) Oh and on ragnar and history. This show is told as "historical" in that it is told the way the Norse sagas would be told around a camp fire because they had no written language at the time. Ragnar was attributed to a lot of this from the first attacks on England to raiding paris in the Norse tails. However we know that can't possibly be true as those things happened 600 years apart. So was it more than 1 guy named ragnar? Was it just a bunch of stuff that made for better stories if told as things ragnar did? Was it stuff done by ragnar and members of his family through the years? It really doesn't matter because the story is told from the view of the Norse myths ;). And we know ragnar existed because his sons very much existed and we know they at least did many of the things the Norse sagas attribute to them. It's a very interesting point of view to tell a "historical" story from. As a historical purist who hated the movie 300, I have actually really enjoyed this interpretation.

It's too late so maybe someone told you guys but harem is not a whorehouse. It's where women get education. Most of them get married with royal family or high ranking commanders officers etc. Idk if they selected from foreigners as Ottoman Empire did but mostly, it was for education in general. It's definitely not a whorehouse. Back in the days, education was not something you can get easily. If you are noble and you have money, you have slight shot to get education as a woman. In muslim countries, men who considered smart chosen and get education at madrasah but women hadn't get a chance like that because it's haram to show yourself to men who is not your husband or relatives. Harem was women's madrasah. Christian men made up stories because they couldn't enter and saw what was going on there so in Europe, people started to believe harem is full of women and you can do them whatever you want. That's totally made up thing. Even Sultan can't touch them unless their mother chose for them in Ottoman Empire. Only exception is Hurrem Sultan who is not chosen by Sultan's mother and get married with Suleiman the Magnificient.

Shannon Nelson Exactly. Season 5a as a whole for me has been a great season. Some mistakes here and there but every season has that. It’s my second favourite after season 4b. I just don’t think any character will be better than Ragnar in this show or in any tv series.

I know im super late but on the subject of Ivar vs Lagertha. If Lagertha has any sort of long weapon such as a spear or two handed axe she would win hands down. Ivar's only chance is to force her close enough to be able to grab her and get her down on the ground which would be impossible if she can win with a spear thrust from several feet away.
