They've watched 4 seasons of Vikings and think this take place in the 1200-1300..? The show starts in 793. I'm not sure how long time has passed since then, but my guess is that's it's probably around 805 or something like that in these episodes. 1200-1300 is not just a few years off, it's 400-500 years later. It's like watching a show about Leonardo da Vinci for instance, thinking it's set in our time...

Historically the term "Viking" was sort of an occupation, like being a pirate or a warrior. Your average Scandinavian would not have identified as a Viking, people would have much more often referred to them as "Northmen" or "Danes." One of the reasons I like the show The Last Kingdom so much is that they actually refer to them as Danes, and only use the term Viking when it is applicable.

Siggy was trying to wash herself and when Aslaug was too busy with the departure of Harbard. The poor girl drowned in the stream and Sigurd later finds her body as it was still dirty. Indicating she was trying to clean herself and drowned in the process...

A small correction to Rick (I'm amazed he actually misremembered a historical tidbit). The head of Roman Religion was the Pontifex Maximus. Julius Caesar was indeed Pontifex, until his death as it was a lifetime appointment, being succeeded by Lepidus, and, finally, by Augustos that made it part of the Imperial office. It did not prevent any kind of civil magistracy or military command, including Consul (The highest office in the Republic). The Catholic church inherited/appropriated a lot of the old offices and honor from the Roman Empire, some part of the Catholic hierarchy (The Pope being formally the Pontifex Maximus), other as honorifics. In this case Consul is a honorific being granted upon Alfred.

Viking is actually the name of the journey they went to, to pillage and plunder other countries. "Að fara í víking" (to go into viking) is actually a common phrase in the Sagas and the people who "went viking" were called vikings.

They called themselves Vikings bofore, remember Thorunn saying ''I'm not Viking!'' a million times on season 3? Also, Calvin, calling themselves vikings IS historically accurate, in Old Norse, the word is spelled víkingr, it appears on several rune stones found in Scandinavia, in the Icelanders' sagas, víking refers to an overseas expedition, Old Norse ''fara í víking'' "to go on an expedition", and víkingr, to a seaman or warrior taking part in such an expedition. And I think the little shit wanted to kill Bjorn in a Viking way, meaning, no arrow in the back or anything like that, even hiring the berserk was a viking way, since it was by combat with a chosen champion for him, so he made the excuse of the sacrifice in the name of the gods, and if there was no sacrifice Torvi would sufer the consequences, since she is the one who drank the blood, the little shit was blackmailing her into killing Bjorn, what a piece of shit, but it back fired at him, he became the sacrifice, and it was so satisfying!

There were no Consuls at the time of Vikings, Western Rome had already fallen and Eastern Rome was the only part that remained from the original Roman Empire. There hadn't been a Consul of Rome for around 900 years by that time, the last one being Caesar Octavian (Augustus). And btw, a Consul was basically President, except there were two at the same time and they were both Generals.

Consul in Ceasars day was the highest political station you could attain, but at this point in history its more an honorary title I think. Basically just like giving him the blessing and support of the church.. also the year is about 830ish.

Re. Lagertha working whilst heavily pregnant. Well women in rural areas of much of the world (certainly Ireland as I know this from a relative) used to work out in the fields til 8 months pregnant as recently as the 1940s or so and they were fine! That isn't what caused Lagertha's miscarriage - she just can't carry kids to term anymore and it goes along with the seer's prediction. Also I can't believe you thought Vikings were around in the 1200s. Whaaaaat?! They were from the 700s to 900s.
