Im 46 and been a Vikings fan since birth. Ive never seen a Vikings Superbowl team. Even the 98-99 team i didnt feel as confident as this year. We have a defense. We have offense. We have special teams. We have coaching. You need all 4 to be legit and this team is it. Skol through the bowl!

Nah man, the 98 team was the team of destiny - idk how they managed to not make the Superbowl that year. Everything lined up for them - killer offense, a defense that played its part perfectly, special teams (literally the best season any kicker has ever had, lol), and a power vacuum in the NFC, where their only real competition was a team with even less of a championship pedigree than they had. What more can you ask for? This years Vikings can hang with the best, but there's WAY more competition than there was in 98. Entering the playoffs, you had to feel like the Vikings were at least a 40% chance to win it all. This year they have to get through so many teams that are just as good as they are that it's maybe 10% (I'm counting Sunday as a playoff game - winner DOES get a free pass to round 2, after all)

I mean, everyone LAMENTS Anderson's miss, but I've never heard anyone say "that f-ing Anderson, what a bum, how could he miss a kick like that?" I feel like Vikings fans generally appreciate the job Anderson did for us that year and just feel really, really bad for him that his only miss came at the worst possible time (as it turned out, ofc - it's not like the Vikings were dead in the water after that miss, they still had like 5 more chances to win the game on offence or defense). I remember the offseason going into that year - kicking was a HUGE question mark for us. Fuad Reveiz was long gone and they had scrambled to sign Eddie Murray partway through '97, but he was also out of the picture. They just kind of sighed into Anderson, who was in his 17th year and joined his 4th team in 5 years, and lo and behold, best season any kicker ever had?!? It was the kind of miracle that made you think they HAD to win the Superbowl. But it's the Vikings, so no, no they did not. Someway, somehow, everything had to come crashing down, and Anderson was just the vehicle the fates chose that day. It's not like Blair Walsh in 2015/16, where he struggled with short kicks all year long, and then it finally cost them in the playoffs (like seriously, couldn't someone have just punched Richard Sherman or something to make it a 42 yarder? He probably would have made that.) You are dead right on Dennis Green though. If clock management was the SAT's, Denny Green wouldn't even get the 400 you get for filling in your name. Watch the 4th quarter of the 1997/8 wild card game vs the Giants (and his postgame interview with the field reporter, if you can find it). Dude made what has to be the DUMBEST clock management decision in NFL history, somehow had it work out, and then he goes and talks to Lesley Visser like he's some kind of clock guru or something and he knew what he was doing all along. I'm a Detroit Lions fan and I just read that the Vikings bought 1,900 tickets behind the Lions bench and sold them to Viking season ticket holders. I gotta say, that's a really slick move and if the NFL doesn't make that illegal for teams to do, more teams will do this in the future. I’ve been a Viking Fan since 1976 . Since Fran Tarkenton & the Purple People Eaters. The last time I was this excited for the Vikings was in 1998 . That season , they went 15-1 in the regular season . Randall Cunningham, Cris Carter & Randy Moss . I’m 55 , and I remember the heartbreaks of the NFC Championship Game losses of 1978 , 1987, 1998 , 2000, 2009, 2017 . I think this Vikings Team can win the # 1 seed in the NFC , make it into the Super Bowl & finally win it !! We’ve been waiting a long time , to get back to another Super Bowl . I’ve been waiting a lifetime .
