Floki's punishment is not only a form of psychological torture but a reference to a story in Norse Mythology of the Norse god his named is based on. When Loki the god of mischief was discovered to have been guilty for Baldur's (another Norse god) seemingly impossible death, his punishment was to be brought to the dark and cold depths of Helheim (Norse mythologies version of Hell) and secured face up to an uncomfortable stone using the intestines of his murdered sons as his bindings then a live snake was hung above him that would constantly drip burning poison into Loki's eyes. Very symbolic too, both Loki and Floki being punished for crimes they committed out of arrogance, envy, and prejudice and losing their children because they cared more about their selfish desires rather than the people they love and not taking responsibility for either. Lesson here is when you do something wrong not only will you pay for it but the people you care about too.

Ragnar is a changed man after Athelstan's death and Rollo's betrayal. He is in a very bad place. It is very difficult to love him. This season is rough, but faith will be rewarded in the end. Hang on!

You asked why they didn´t show the beheading. Might be because the American version is partly censored. The version that aired in Europe was a little more gore, bad language and nudity.

Btw i was really annoyed when i saw this episode because aslaug an ragnar didnt look after helga an flokis child better. They had them living in some shack in the rocks through the winter season. Helga has always helped ragnar and aslaug with there children and when ragnar was dying they wrnt to floki an helga to heal him. RIP to that babygurl

Ragnar and Floki both still love each other but both also feel betrayed by one another. Ragnar just wants Floki to admit he did it out of jealously and apologise that's why he gets angry and gets disappointed sigh when Floki doesn't say what he wants.
