J'ADORE. This is why Viktor & Rolf are true creative geniuses. They are the extremists in fashion that bring fantasies to life and this was indeed a fantasy. I'm blown away by the craftsmanship of these garments... I watched this video I don't even know how many times. Just wow.

This is the best collection this season. The concept, the execution, the colors, all of it looked amazing. I would totally buy a piece, or two, and wear it (if I had the money of course lol).

What would we do for fashion if we only had scraps of the past. Lovely vision.
@manthasagittarius18 жыл бұрын
"Scraps of the past," the still-glittering tatters of yesteryear, yes, I see what it's trying to do -- but I don't believe your metaphor has that much weight, or maybe the word is agility. It has to leap over the verbally clever (which it is, don't get me wrong), and make it down to be recognized by the guts of the eyes. Not sure it's conveying more than the fluttering bright bits with the skinny escapees from "Oliver!" inside. Shallow reference, but intrusive, even hijacking. Maybe I'm just being stiff about it. I guess the trouble is it has to be worn, so it's more than even "functional art." It's still clothing. Go see the koi diamond, look it up -- gorgeous bit of rock with random red-orange inclusions, fit to be fine sculpture, but apparently not intended to be worn as a jewel . . . unless of course somebody does.

This is one type of couture, "we can make this and no one else can" a celebration of sheer technical mastery of fabric, but the shapes were too exaggerated and did look very costumey. Outside of a couture show, you could have mistaken them for a Broadway musical or opera performers. Perhaps the ideas will be toned down for an actual customer, their actually selling the textures, colors, beading, saying we can do this amazingly intricate stuff. Just wish the actual shapes of the clothes were more commercial, to get a idea of what a real customer would actually wear in her real 1% lifestyle.
@Kayenne548 жыл бұрын
I agree with your summation. Would just add that this collection looks too "try hard".
@boredude47138 жыл бұрын
Actually this is the real, raw couture, nothing should be toned down for couture shows, V&R are actually one of the last brands that do real couture. Couture should be over the top, 'cosutme-y'...You have ready to wear, cruise and pre-fall shows if you want clothes that can be worn on daily bases.
@datdanh25687 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with Pearls Snake! So who's the real customer of couture? Celebrities and people with a lot of money. And the first outfits that came out, i think many celebrities could have wear it, examples are Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and even Taylor Swift would looked amazing in some of the garments
@withlovestephaniedenise70247 жыл бұрын
Dat Danh the real couture customers are the rich who go to the Met Gala. I love V&R's vision. I wish I could learn under them, but for now, I have to watch from a distance👄

@@boredude4713.......... Lol.... You imbecile. "Real couture" has nothing to do with being "over the top". Couture is about being made to measure with some rules on construction and studio setup. It may just as well be a pair of plain pants.

Oh, fuck all -- did you have to try and pilfer mojo from Joannie at the end? That is nerve -- all nerve and no brains. Tell you what this reminds me of -- in the sixties in college I was a music major w/minor in tech theater, and did a good bit of costuming student scutwork for uni productions under a rather brilliant professor. We put up a mad production of Brecht's Kafkasischer Kreidekreis (The Caucasian Chalk Circle), and this lady chose the unifying single image she liked to work with, to pull sets, costume, lighting, even music together, as "a circus that's had a front-end collision on a rainy night with a funeral cortege." Worked splendidly for the play. This show -- I'm not so sure.

I understand that unwearable maginificent dresses and costumes are a must to the Haute Couture industry, but we have unwearable designs like that of Galliano's or Gaultier's or McQueen's, and then we have Viktor&Rolf's which are never my favourites...

i think they read the book wrong - a lot of work does not make it haute couture! they have a lot of interns, thats what i see!
@Consrignrant8 жыл бұрын
I think you read the book wrong regarding what haute couture is. First and foremost it's made to measure. Then, there is as much hand work as possible. Next comes complicated patterns and construction. Finally it's about experimenting with new ideas. Ultimately it's the individual designer's reason for doing haute couture that determines whether it's over-the-top, or very wearable.
