Sublime, ethereal and delightful little masterpiece by the great Villa.

Lindo, maravilhoso, genial. Grossartig. Wunderschön. Es sollte schon der kreativ ungewöhnliche brasilianer Villa Lobos sein.

As much as I love classical music and pursue active listening and knowledge, I haven't heard classical harmonica... and this composition is so beautiful - transcends to another time and place. Thank you for the posting - your choices are always spot on for me!!

Roberto Carvalho de Magalhães Thank you so much Roberto. I especially like the Cowell piece. It evokes images of the romantic films of the early '60's - young French New Wave as well as American. Have you heard Cowell's "Suite for Violin and Piano" (1925). It was played as part of a Mark Morris Dance Group performance in NY this spring... beautiful. The Edu G. was very fun - especially the 3rd piece. Again, thank you!

+Karen Dubiner If you still are interested in classical music for harmonica, here is something that may please you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o53JZ4dsrZqce5o. It's a suite for harmonica and orchestra, by Darius Milhaud. It's playful and delightful. I send you my best.

Assisti a esse concerto tocado pelo Robert Blonfiglio em 2017, com a Filarmônica de Minas Gerais. Foi uma das melhores apresentações que vi!

Thank you for uploading this magnificent and transcendent music, Roberto. Who would have thought a harmonica in classical music? Heitor Villa-Lobos.

+Marion Kiker You're welcome, Marion. I think the first composer to create a concerto for harmonica was Darius Milhaud ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/o53JZ4dsrZqce5o). If you are interested in other concertos for this instrument, have a look at this playlist: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o53JZ4dsrZqce5o. Villa-Lobos' is my favorite one though...

This wonderful piece, was it truth that it was lost in Jerusalem in september 1955 and later construed again by sketches of the work left by Villalobos himself? Whomever knows about such event could sometime give more details?
@robertocarvalhodemagalhaes36485 жыл бұрын
It seems to me it’s just a legend about the piece. What happened is that the work had been commissioned by the harmonica player John Sebastian, who supposedly didn’t feel comfortable with the first version of the “Cadenza,” and both Villa-Lobos and John Sebastian worked then on a new Cadenza for the Concerto together. None of the records and memoirs about this Concerto mention it was ever lost and re-written.

@@robertocarvalhodemagalhaes3648 olá Roberto tudo bem? A versão que conheço sobre o desaparecimento da partitura original é descrita pelo Tommy Reilly e que diz que um aluno de harmonica japonês é que lhe arranjou

Great piece. Wonderful utilization of the instrument's possibilities, masterful treatment by Bonfiglio. What orchestra is this?
