Manchester City's sister club New York City FC is excited and proud to announce the signing of its first player, Spanish superstar and World Cup winner David Villa. The 32-year-old, who last month helped his former club Atletico Madrid to the La Liga title in Spain, joins the newly-formed Major League Soccer team for a three-season commitment.

Well he could probably play for a lesser team in Europe (i.e. not one of the giants like Barcelona) and still play at a high level. But he would compete for playing time with new talent. While he's still got his touch, in the MLS he can start, captain, and essentially be the star/figurehead of the team. Another point is that playing for a lesser European team, he might not have success as usually the best 2-4 teams in each league simply overshadow the rest. So he'd have less success. Plus some smaller teams might not be able to afford his contract. He can play in the US and have some success while helping to be a spur to grow the sport even further.

Angela Solis I don't think it's that boring. I like the Eastern and Western Conference so that it's a bit more competitive. Then we have playoffs which are a lot of fun too. I think it combats the boring drop off when a big team mathematically wins no matter what.
