But I've always said (as Skap has) that his "D" was average at best, and he hardly ever guarded Kobe (because Kobe would torch him). Offensively, he was gifted (and hot), ... for 3 years. If the American youth/collegiate pipeline to the NBA wasn’t completely rotten, NBA teams wouldn’t need to invest in international scouting. I'm going dispel the myths of bigger stronger and more athletic because I'm tired of hearing the false nonsense. The average height in the NBA was 6'6" in the 80's and it's 6'6" now. In the 80's and 90's there were multiple players 7'4" and taller. There were plenty of players with over 40" verts. A 5'7" guy won the '86 dunk contest (Spud Webb). Ralph Sampson was 7'4" and could do everything Wemby can do including handling the ball in the 80's. The 90's was the diesel decade and I'm not just talking about Shaq. It was the weight lifting decade with multiple guys benching 400 including little guys Avery Johnson and Robert Pack. Earl Boykins at 5'5" and 135 lbs could bench 350. All of this has been confirmed by their teammates and trainers. The only position that's taller now on average is PG but the rest aren't and the average height is still the same.

Fundamentals beat athleticism. These athletes cant play the game because they dont focus on fundamentals. When I saw Jokic in 2016, I tried to tell everyone how amazing he was going to be because he mastered the fundamentals. Jordan/Kobe are what you get with fundamentals and athleticism.
