I owned the original, sold it, then years later I've bought the Big Box (it looks way better in person than in the pictures), but I've decided to sell it and get the old one with the Inn and Port once again. The board is easier to read and iconography is much more intuitive.

Loved the playthrough! Village is one of our favorites and we always play with Inn and Port. I would definitely recommend adding the life goals in your next game (with or without the sailing part of Port). They really help guide your strategy of what you want to do in the game, and the silver goals are very cool ways to split off from the other player(s) early on, because they all ask you to collect different things. Then once you complete the goal and get the points, you now have all this stuff to figure out how to work with! When I introduce the game to new people I usually leave off the sailing, but I always include the life goals and the Inn.

Thanks for the advice, you seem very experienced with this one. I haven't had a chance to play it since we recorded the video, hopefully it does happen though.

Village is a really neat game and so thematic for a eurogame. I've always wanted to see a full playthrough so I'm really glad for this one. Thanks a lot for the video! (Also, unrelated, but SU&SD's Village review is one of my favorite of their reviews.)

I'm really glad you liked this one, I had a blast playing it! We recorded this in March and unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try it again, though I do still hope to make that happen.

At 15:59 and 39:13 you say that you only have the option to hire the top captain of each deck, but that's actually not true. The order of the captain cards in each deck is irrelevant; you can hire any of the unused captains by paying the appropriate amount of coins.

Love, love this game, my top 10. Thanks for reminding me of it with this awesome video! Made me get the Big Box edition, as it's impossible to get the Inn and Port expansions in Europe. But I must say I'm not loving the new art.. The OG is just more charming or perhaps more familiar..

And I love the fact that occasionally you do playthroughs of older games!

I always thought the rule regarding moving up in the church was you could only move each meeple one step per mass (even if you have enough grain to do two steps like Jon did).

Love this game, also prefer original art over the big box one. Would love to have the expansions but they are hard to find.

Nice to see a full playthrough for a game I've been wondering about. BTW, in the Klingon subtitles at 1:08:32, you say "bained". I assume that should be "gained".

Glad you enjoyed it! Bummer about that typo, unfortunately it's not a Klingon subtitle but one that is rendered into the video so I can't change it. Fortunately, I think the intent of the comment is still maintained.

I actually believe that annotation is incorrect. The Old Man takes up your whole turn, it doesn’t let you do an extra action.

I love Village and never managed to get the 2 expansions for my original copy. I eventually upgraded to the new Big Box which adds a 3rd expansion into the mix. I haven't tried that one yet.

I have both versions and I'm torn on which to keep. I really dislike the art and "business" of the new version but it saves the multiple board layers.

I think Anastasia placed her deceased meeple during her last turn rather than complete the turn first, so could she have place that meeple in the church?

Village is fantastic. I recently got rid of my old copy and replaced it with the new version. I really like the whimsical art in the new version... don't love the box size though (slight regrets). Should break the shrink on that new one and get it to the table.

I didn't even know there was a new version with different graphics. I just looked it up, and I do quite like it.

Your comment at 1:08:32 is not correct. You actually did this correctly. Thanks to Anastasia reading the old man with the book visible at 1:07:51 you see it says. "Wirhout paying 3 same-colored influence cubes or taking a cube from an action space."

Nice playthrough. I thought Jon would win by a larger margin, but it was really close. Makes me want to get this to the table. I like the Port expansion, but i agree with Jon that it seems like you need 3 Port cubes for a 2 player game. I thought the In would lead to some unmarked graves being filled quickly, but in the end there was only one. I noticed their are 7 spots to put cubes, but the well shows only 6 options...Ahh..the Inn color is not represented. I assume its due to not being a color in the Original board, OR...is the Inn not a valid action for going to the well?
@JonGetsGames3 ай бұрын
The Well is part of the base game, so I think it does apply to the Inn but since the Inn is an expansion it doesn't show that option. I haven't had a chance to play this again since we filmed this in March, I am still super curious to try with Inn and the base game travel area to compare.

It's such a funny design to me because it is this game about idyllic, peaceful village life but with the group meta we have a lot of times the end game becomes a race to see who can send their workers to their own demise the quickest. Make that beer and die, you fools! I am trying to win the game here!
@JonGetsGames2 ай бұрын
Ha, yeah it was easy to lean into that too.

1:24:52 Jon you didn't spend 2 time to convert grain to coins. Would help you die off faster, lol.
