We show you around a typical Portuguese village to give you a taste of village life in Portugal. Also we take a walk though some of the beautiful countryside of Central Portugal. Great until things go wrong! Watch to the end to find out what happens!
The village we visit is A Dos Negros. 7km from the charming town of Óbidos in the Leira district of Central Portugal. It's pleasant fruit growing country where you will find an abundance of apple, pear and plum plantations. Also there are a lot of vineyards producing good quality Portuguese wine.
We used the OSM app to find our way. It's very good but BEWARE!!! Many hiking trails in Portugal can disappear over time and quickly cease to exist.

There will be many more videos to come as we are travelling indefinitely.

When I first brought my wife to my little village in Northern Portugal she would often speak in a whisper as if afraid to disturb the tranquility of the place. I found it amusing that you both seem to do the same at some points in this video. I really enjoy your work and hope you heal up quickly. Portugal is great at many things but clearly marked paths is not one of them! Take care : )

At 3:58, what you call "band stand" is exactly that, and in portuguese is called "coreto". "Freguesia" is the smallest administrative division of the portuguese territory, similar, as already mentioned in the comments, to a "parish". Several "freguesias" make up a "município/concelho" (municipality). Enjoy the country walks.
@FrugalTravellers

We just arrived back home in Canada after a month in Portugal. We had a 2 week stay in Alqueve in the Coimbra District and the neatest thing about our village life was the Fish Man and the Bread Lady who would drive through the village on their set days and honk their horns so people would come out and make their purchases. Kind of reminded me of the Fish & Chips trucks that do the rounds in UK villages once a week.
@FrugalTravellers
@FrugalTravellers 2 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes. We did see a fish man drive around in a little white van honking his horn. The locals were all keen to come out and buy. It's such a big part of the Portuguese diet. I never knew there were fish and chip vans in the UK villages. That's brilliant! I can't imagine seeing them in Canada. 😃 ~ Lee

Isn’t Dos Negros lovely! Glad you made it out of those brambles… but holy moly, I was wincing at those cuts and thorns! Ouch! Did I miss the part where you share the name of the app you were following? I only heard you refer to it as OSM and I’m Not a fan of acronyms. By the way, Freguesia is Parish… basically that is the municipal building for the parish. They are in all the parishes. The first time I ever saw outdoor exercise equipment like that was in Lagos. We don’t have them where I am from 8n Canada but it might be because of all the snow. 🤷🏻‍♀️
@FrugalTravellers
@FrugalTravellers 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it, Jen. The wild plant life here is pretty unforgiving! 😂 OSM is actually the name of the app. A few residents here recommended it to us for walking. It may be an acronym for something but not sure what. It's pretty good but sometimes the trails disappear. We've heard that is common here as the farming landscape changes often. Parish... That makes sense. Thanks for that. We appreciate the input. 😃 ~ Lee

I really appreciate both of you two's honesty and good humour. We're coming to Portugal (Lisbon and the Algarve) on October 30 for 27 days.
